Discussion Small capacity Adventure bikes

Well that would be fashion again. Coz everyone loves pointed bits of plastic. Just like they like bikes with no mudguards (fenders) and brown seats. "It looks cool man." Pity if you had to ride it in wet weather or you don't like your engine, suspension & back covered with oil, grease, dogshit, mud, tar and dirt.

Off topic but I'd like to get rid of my little Yamaha commuter and buy a Royal Enfield Interceptor.

 

I went to Peter Stevens yesterday, but on my way in I had to walk past their Harley Heaven outlet and this was out the front. It turned me off the whole adventure bike thing and I started to feel unwell.



When I eventually got to the Honda section, they didn't have any CB500X bikes, so I wasn't able to test seat that. nearly half the floor was covered with Groms and the latest 'postie bike'. The same issue when I got to the Suzuki area; no adventure 650, so out I went. On my way out I spotted this 'thing'. On sale for just under $42,000! I'll take two thanks. FFS.

It's weird isn't it? I was pretty disappointed with what is 'trending' in new bike sales. I can see why older bikes are becoming more sought after. And, I don't mean just to cut and 'brown seat' them as Blair mentioned. I'm getting too old and grumpy.

 

That is why bikes like the Royal Enfield 650's are popular, and the new BSA 650 will sell well too.

 

Most 20-something's I know are either trying to corner the crypto currency market or are stoned 24/7. That's unfair, a few are good kids, but I do mean a FEW. I think @Murdo is on the money about retro looking bikes having more appeal. Well, to me anyway. BSA selling for $10,000ish and might even be classed as a LAMS bike.

Wow, 24HP doesn't exactly fill me with a sense of 'adventure'; More like 'struggle'. Looks okay. Compared to the HD I saw yesterday, it's positively beautiful!

Funny you should say that. We have a few dirt roads around our place, so I fitting the Spada out with more 'all-terrain' tyres!

 

I recently caught the Spirit of Tasmania (ship) back to Tassie and while waiting to board a few motorcycle riders pulled up in the next land and we got chatting. Both of these gentlemen were heading back to Tasmania after spending some time on the mainland. The guy closest to me was heading back to Hobart after a 3 week trip up to Townsville and he had covered 6,000km in the 3 weeks he'd been riding (on his own). Not too bad for a 71 year old block on a GS500F. He rigged up a LED Light bar on his fairing and a carry setup which held all of his travel gear (and there was a lot of it!).

The guy next to him pulled up and he was riding a KTM390! He'd been to outback central NSW but was travelling with less gear.

Just goes to show you can use almost anything as an adventure bike.
