If nothing turns up there is a fix which I've used. There's a eutectic overlay which is applied to cam lobes by gas welding. I got a part stick from a local cam grinder. Once the pits are overfilled it can be smoothed down to match the good surface then polished. It work hardens and i've had no probs with the cams I've repaired
Hmm that would sound like a job for an engine builders or something to me maybe? I wouldn't be able to weld myself haha

Here's the pitting on my spare pair I have read forums which say a little pitting is ok, but i guess it can only get worse the more you use it? Personally i don't think these are worth using in their current state
I wouldn't use them like that as they will chip off do more damage. Get some weld on them and ground off.
Just like bronze welding. Big soft flame. The filler rod melts at a lower temp than bronze Not a lot of heat needed - but the cam lobe needs to be clean. There's probably a flux made for the job but I used normal bronze welding powdered flux. i haven't looked for a source of the rod but it's a Eutectic product so someone will carry it.
I'll do some research On a side note, have a look at the state of these cam lobes removed from the $100 engine i bought... I think someone has attacked them with a disc grinder

Waggott Cams used to be one of the best back in the Olden Days... they werebased in Greenacre in Sydney. I had a cam from a 1600 XFlow Cotina GT re-worked there to the ppoint where I had to fly cut the pistons for clearance... Also had a Datsun 1600 cam from them, both cams were very well done (welded and re-ground) with good documantation etc. Not sure if it is still family owned now but they used to be well respected.... Their "1/2" Race cam was the go to for Holden Red motors in the day.
I only know of Waggott cams because a few years ago I googled cam re-grinders/re-grinding - their name came up constantly as a recommendation, they also run a race engine building business, I think they must be doing something right

Hey guys! Does anyone know how to tell the difference between camshafts for the A and C models? Looks like the intake camshafts are the same part number, but exhaust camshafts are different? Assuming there's some markings on the camshafts that can be used to differentiate between the A and C? Cheers!
I thought they were the same cams in both, but if there's a different part number, then maybe the C exhaust cam might be different given the different carb main jets and different TCI for the C model. The C model makes its peak HP and torque at a different RPM to the A model, so maybe they are different? I'd be interested to get an answer to the cams question and also if there's any marking to differentiate the two.
Yeah so part numbers according to the catalogue: ZXR250A/B 49118-1069 (Intake) 49118-1070 (Exhaust) ZXR250C/D 49118-1069 (Intake) 49118-1111 (Exhaust) Yeah like you said with the jetting etc, that would make sense for the cam profiles to potentially be slightly different too I think I have tracked down a set of C cams that might be in good condition, also wondering how bad a set of A cams would perform haha
Ok so my 4 cactus camshafts have different numbers/letters stamped, and differently done too R2 A F R4 A L 2 39 2 40 Pretty sure I've seen some online with R1 D R3 D Y H stamped on them...
To be completely honest, I know sweet FA about the ZXR250 cams. I'd love to have an expert (or anyone who knows) publish profiles for the standard cams and confirming overlap etc. I know @Linkin posted a timing wheel on this forum, but I can't find it. I also can't recall if it was for a ZXR250A or ZXR250C engine. Hopefully Linkin can repost his timing wheel, but getting to the bottom of the 'cams' question might require contact with Kawasaki Japan. I might send them an email to see what they say? Otherwise, running ZXR250A cams in a ZXR250C engine would be something to try. A dyno and AFR would help the investigation, but that's wishful thinking.
