Parked Nix when I got to work and noticed this on the long-distance trip meter. It was reset the day she passed rego nearly 3 months ago.
Mate after today i would not run it again... I pick a 20w50 oil cause of the hotter weather.. but was a mistake.. Because i start work so early bike takes even longer at night to warm up. which upsets everyone in my street.. also even at 10:30 am with full sun on the bike.. took way way way to long to warm up and because the oil was harder to move around the tappets were ticking. only softly but softly is to much for my liking.. so went straight to the bike shop spent another $40 on motul 15w50... just did finished the oil change and wow what a difference... the diesel oil came out of the bike was way to thick.. i mean it looked like cold oil.. but the oil was warm... My advice.. stick to oils designed for motorbikes not oils that are meant to cover a wide range of vehicles...now to take her for a ride and see if the tick has gone.. Alveterzane, Tim
I could not agree with you more, horses for courses. Now go and take her for an extended test ride, sure that won't take much prompting
interesting - I'm running 15W-50 penrite diesel in my fizzer - it gets changed at 2K kms because it's cheap $7/litre but the quality is there and I don't have any issues with warm up either
the 2 oils where completely different colour.. The diesel oil was very dark and took a very long time to put down the funnel was very slow moving.. the Motul was like honey comb... and very free flowing.... For all I know I may have done some different... It was only my experience and it was a bad one so I will just stick with Motul for now on..
Have a read of this thread bud..... http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/diesel-oil-in-motorcycles.2499/
the thread above is the one to start you off for reading - lots of great info out there As personal testimony - I've been using diesel oil in the fizzer since I got her on the road after a 9 year outage in someones garage, in that time I've put over 15K kms on it without issue. 7 days a week - rain hail or shine commuting 90kms to work and back. It gets ridden like I stole it and had it up to 170 in 4th touching the redline the other night. I always let it warm up for at least two minutes before riding. Currently using 15W-50 Penrite diesel which is ~$7.50/litre and it gets changed religiously at about 2K kms - because I ride the bike pretty hard keeping away from cars. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/on...ine-Oil-15W-50-10-Litre.aspx?pid=123726#Combo I replaced the clutch plates a few weeks ago and with the cover off from what I could see the internals look sparkling - I'll know more when I replace the gearbox output shaft when I locate a suitable replacement. One thing that usually occurs is the oil residue leaving the golden patina on components and there's no sign of that whatsoever. If I go as far unbolting the mains and rods I'll pull a piston to see how clean they are and check the ring lands for carbon buildup - which is one thing that Diesel oil is supposed to help keep to a minimum. One thing to be aware of is the viscocity difference a 10w-40 has viscocity modifiers that alter the cold vs hot properties in a 1:4 ratio, whereas the 15w-50 that ratio is 1:3.3 - from reading I've done the higher ratio leads to faster breakdown of the oil and less protection. Ideally I'd be using 15W-40 and I might go for that weight in Rimula-x on the next purchase
Thanks guys,i will go for a ride first then come home and do some "home-work".lots of reading.im not real clever on reconising all the different models of bikes out in the world but learning-bearing in mind that my two bikes are air cooled so ill read on...Ken
lanolin spray from tamworth? floor polish works to.used rust buster between the trees on 2 bikes then put beeswax over when metal became shiny.
The same stuff but another can - turns out I already had some in my shed that Granddad gave a few years ago!
They was yesterday not today. Mt Glorious Mt Nebo This is the back side of Glorious Mount Mee Ended up doing 400km round trip...
