I've seen a few older posts about people replacing their Across's brake lines with one from Hel. In the one post that directly links the ones used...the links are dead. I contacted Hel who said they don't have the templates and would need my brake lines to be sent to them. Which is fine, I'll do that if I have to do so. Seems like people were getting off the shelf ones though. For those who've used Hel Brake lines, what ones did you order?

Okay, according to this post, GS500 (89 - 94 model) brake lines are the same. That'll do me! I'll let you know if it works out...assuming I can also get them in purple, of course. Guess I have a call to make tomorrow morning. :D

I know...repling to myself again. Hopefully it will be helpful in future. I've now (finally) taken off the lines and measured them. 70cm (generously) for rear, 66cm for front. I'm taking them to a steel braided hose manufacturer tomorrow and will ask if its the same as a GS500 as has been suggested in another post. The suspense is killing me. :superman:

Problem is you really want to use brake lines that are ADR approved. Eliminates any potential insurance issues down the track

I forgot to reply about the outcome. So, I went to a local place that does custom braided brake hoses. Like everything else with this bike, it was delivered late and at a higher cost than quoted. *sigh* Both front and rear brakes returned to me were exactly the same length. Weird. They definitely weren't the same going in. The rear one did fit, and functions, so I can't actually complain about that. Hopefully I'll have time to fit the front one this coming Sunday, so I'll be able to report on the front one too. 65.5cm for both if my memory is correct. Too cold to go out and check!

that's a 50% increase over the quoted cost - very uncool behaviour by the workshop let alone being unlawful as a quote is supposed to be a legally binding document

You will find they classed it as an "estimate" so they can charge what they like...
My question would be are they ADR approved?? That can have its own ramifications...
I only paid $240 for a set of 4 braided lines for my Scirocco when I fitted the 6 pot Brembo's.

Yep, @Andych ,definitely ADR approved. I was so excited to find someone who could do what I needed just around the corner (coz I live in the middle of nowhere!), super disappointed with the service. The brake lines have turned out to be great now they're installed on the bike, but at that price, I should have just gone with the GS500 Hel ones.

And people wonder why I don't usually subscribe to the whole 'shop local' mentality...
