Yes thankyou sonny ... I probably taught u that Did the fluid the other day Pads I think are the originals I put in when I rebuilt the bike when I bought it .... I doubt they are worn down ... just bloody old now and maybe gone to crap ... Ill have to pull them out Sintergrip roads sound the ducks gutz http://www.rpmmoto.com.au/Store/Bra...R250-1989---1993-Ferodo-front-brake-pads.aspx https://www.metalgear.com.au/mgear-brake-pads-organic-p-7975.html
I've always been partial to Metalgear organic pads, or sintered ones when I have the $$ and I'm riding hard.
Fork seals are leaking so as I suspected theres oil on the pads ... plenty of meat left Can oil be cleaned off pads successfully? .... Ill get new ones but its going for a pink slip on thursday
Dip them in petrol for 5 minutes and then clean and light (fire) to remove any remaining fuel. Should be okay after that. Be careful when lighting them...obviously.
You hear all the tales of burning the oils and fuel out but really the best bet is a new set of pads. The old Asbestos pads would have probably been ok burning them off but modern materials may well not like that treatment. They are not overly expensive compared to new disc rotors and why skimp on a safety item. Oil in them won’t alter the feel, just the stopping distance. With new pads you get to choose the style of pad you want with wear vs feel vs noise and dust. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Give them a decent wash in brake cleaner, then boil them in a pot of water with a bit of dishwashing liquid for a few minute's
Then bake in a moderate oven for half hour to bring any remaining oil to the surface. Clean of with brake clean or acrylic thinners (General purpose thinners).
At least its easier replacing brake pads than wives/girlfriends .... just go online ..... oh wait .... I got my second wife online .... I need a lie down
Had no brake cleaner on the shelf so used thinners then a boiling washing up liquid bath , then in the heat wave sun for a few hours then repeated ..... looking much better Also did the rotors with the old fav soapy steel pads ..... u can see in the pic where its clean and shiny and then 'black' after I turned the wheel forward from behind the calipers
Pro tip Make sure the hoses from the tank match your fuel tap The earlier fuel taps on an FZR are setup differently than the later ones as in which inlet is 'on' and 'res' .... I put a new tap on recently with new fuel lines and just guessed and thought Ill worry about that later Well coming back from the pink slip this morning it chugged out at an intersection then eventually coughed and spluttered riding along and then wouldnt start after stalling at another corner .... I was cursing and swearing at the bastard ... luckily I was within 'rolling down the hill into my driveway' distance away .... I could hear the fuel pump crying for mercy , so I thought it must just be the old filter I put on (that glass thing I rebuilt pissed out fuel ) ...... and then remembered about the fuel tap ... 'res' to 'on' and started straight up ..... duh! .... no wonder I got a Seniors Card in the mail the other day
A seniors card...... I am not entitled to one of those because I still work Full Time Now if I lived in Vic they do a partial Seniors Card.. not sure what that does.. might be because it is the Nanny State
Try IMPEX for your parts. Genuine Yamaha and have been cheaper than Megazip etc so for for me. They are basically all Russians working in Japan Go figure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Pretty good service from IMPEX @GreyImport, I ordered my parts on the 8th and they have all arrived in their store and should ship in the next few days....
What would be good is if these other fukkers ran a business correctly ... it must still be 'holiday mode' in their premises Whats the shipping cost like?
Cheaper than Megazip. None of them are particularly cheap on freight but I think that is more about EMS than anything and you also take into account the packing and looking after the GST etc. Last 2 times they have been super fast as well. We will see this time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I just checked my IMPEX account and it is saying the parcel has been shipped..so all things being equal I should get it sometime this week based on Previous experience.
