Let me check it out for you, that area was up for re-zoning so I'm not certain. Will check on it tomorrow.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about that ignition module having been opened as long as they did competent repairs inside because it shows they cared enough to reseal the thing afterwards to keep water out.

Getting silicone smooth is an artform

    peace out

Don't be too concerned with the instrument cluster. I think they're like that from factory - mine have that crappy seal job like that as well.

I do as well. Just a disposable paper element type from any auto shop. Similarly styled to the ones you linked.

The glass type are ok for the big bits of crud, but a paper type will get the smaller stuff.

Burnt toast! ...... the wires are very brittle from the heat so Im going to re wire it and hopefully find a new place for it on the frame ..... and then I can do away with the the vacuum cleaner hoses as well.

Fit a nice new, icy cool mosfet reg/rec under the seat.
Then new teflon coated wires from the stator and connect with a Weather Pack connector.
Perfection and no more Robby the Robot hoses.
    Just a suggestion.

I think just heat alone .... there was no evidence anywhere else in the area.
Maybe water got in there ...?

Sounds good to me ..... these look ok... ? ..... shipping is steep though .... Ill have to search for someone selling local.

http://roadstercycle.com/index.htm .... sells via ebay as well.

    Always the shipping. :minigun:
Most of the time I cannot buy anything from the US because they will not ship to Thailand. I have to rely on the good graces of kind forum members to help me out.

    Hey Greyimport,

I had the same problem, my solution was 25amp wire, I redid all the wires there up to about 10cm away from the connector. This solved my heat issues as internal resistance was lower at the connector. It's been like that for 2 years now.

    Cost me $20.

In regards to vacuum tubes, I have mine blanked off as well, though I don't have front fairings so I wouldn't be able to give you an idea of heat in the area after removing this. I did also consider moving the rec/reg to the rear subframe, which is also an option that I think would work. I just didn't bother personally because I have a naked bike so heat transfer wasn't a problem.

    Cheers

Just tried to ride it in the street before pulling it apart but sadly it only has 1st gear and neutral .... so more dismantling required ...... :commando:
