Cans use a solvent to make them dry quicker, guns use a hardener... So basically when you spill fuel or any solvent based products on the rattle can paint it will lift and eat through it...
2 pak uses an isocyanate hardener. acrylic uses an acetone or alcohol based solvent. varnish uses a low volatility solvent. fuel will eat through acrylic slowly, 2 pak fuel has a zero affect on but varnish softens at first drop.
I'm painting now with 2 pak, the painting i've done in the past was with acrylic lacquer & it was ok but it is a bit tempramentle & not as durable. I've just done a frame with acrylic lacquer, silver with a clear over & fuel has affected it a bit, very disappointed, the rest of the bike was done with 2 pak & it's still like new. Off the shelf rattle cans are enamel & a bitch to sand off, nothing will stick to enamel later so it has to be removed if you want to do a propper job with 2 pak or acrylic, I'm no expert that's just what I've experienced & Ive got some big fairings I've spent hours & hours sanding back because the last owner painted it with Circus Yellow from Bunnings Damn it. I've tried 'Bumper Stripper' but don't waste your money, it's just weak paint stripper & it still eats into the plastic & leave a crappy surface that has to be fixed. But now having had success with 2 pak I'd not use anything else. Like what I tell my apprentices, the long hard way is always the best in the end,
Well for me spray gun would last longer and paint finish is still superb compared with regular spray can paint.

As far as I know isn't 2-PAC paint illegal or at least, highly questionable to use D.I.Y. without a spray booth/extractor fan due to the fact that the chemicals they use are seriously toxic? http://www.safetysolutions.net.au/a...nters-must-know-about-two-pack-paint-spraying Something to be very wary of when you get involved with it, I don't doubt it does a better job - it will always be the king of wear/finish but christ, last thing I want is to see a member hurt because they delved in without knowing what is going on.
if using a good respirator and long covered clothing then while not perfect is kind of ok. always some one doing it. spray booth should be used but epa does not cover a back yard.would i spray 2 pak in my yard....no...some do.
I use the disposable suits, there about $10, used for asbestos removal. Get a tissue box of disposable rubber gloves. Splash out on a full face mask with appropriate filters about $150, it'll last you for years if you store it well, 3M have good ones on ebay. Hey, fast food will give you high blood pressure from obesity & onset diabetes, smoking will kill you, obviously, one way or another, pollution from the bikes & cars we drive will do the same and alcohol poisons most of your organs in different ways & leads to all sorts of life threatening complications. But all the above can be tolerated in controlled doses. I've got employees who demand face masks for safe work which I encourage, but they have to remove them to have a smoke each hour !
