Unfortunately there were a few incidents during Saturday's session resulting in damaged ego's,bikes, a broken collarbone and a bad prang on the back straight that resulted in a rider being put in an induced coma. Sadly he passed away as a result of his injuries yesterday. Hard to believe it, especially as I was talking to him in the morning at signing in. Has made me think very hard about making sure mechanically all is spot on and also about focus and mindset on the track. I know a few day's when I have been off the boil mentally, I have had some close calls and just loaded the bikes up and called it a day. Incidents like this really put it into perspective about the level of commitment (In all areas) you need when you are pushing hard. Also makes it hard to justify to the other half and kids why I still do it...

Got in and had a look at the FZR400 airbox. Found the boots weren't lined up on top of the carbs. Also found the fuel tap seems to be a badly-chosen replacement that appears to be leaking...

I know what you are saying. I guess things like this, just make me think more about making sure everything is in order before a track session. Makes me work harder on setup and form, and not cut corners on tech. I definitely am more careful on state of tyres and suspension than I was 12 months ago. No more "She'll be right...get another day out of it" mentality.
By the way...I like the torturous countdown timer. Would do my head in though, I battle just counting down the days until the next track day!!

Put the charged battery back in the FZR400, reconnected the fuel level sender under the tank and started it up for the first time in months. Still sounds great in neutral but it was too late in the day for a sneaky test run as it's not registered yet.

Will try another test ride up and down the street tomorrow morning and organise a day permit for Friday to get a rego inspection if it behaves itself. :crazypilot:

If it doesn't, I can always save my money by loading it on the trailer to take it to a servo for an inspection and see if it passes... :idk:

Well today's Fizzer 400 testing went well - up and down the street for about 10 minutes with no stalling. :D

Waiting on a replacement fuel tap and reserve switch.

Tried out my wheel brace and paddock stand, removed the rear wheel, attempted to replace the rear disc and one of the bolts holding the rear brake disc on decided it was weaker than my 6mm hex key even though I was able to loosen the other two with no damage. Rather than fire up power tools at 10 pm to attempt getting it out I opted to leave the current disc on until I can source a replacement bolt (or wheel if need be). Replaced the rear pads anyway and noticed a big improvement.

Noticed the chain and sprockets need replacing too - something to add to my "after rego" list for this one...

I'm pretty sure you'll have the same issue my FZR front wheel suffered. I just drilled/removed the old bolt and heli-coiled the hole and it was as good as new

Adjusted the chain tension on Nix and gave her and Jack a good polish with Inox yesterday.
Will need to back the tension off just a little tonight and have a look at the rear brake as it seems a little spongier than I'd like...

My Sunday morning was to check the cam chain tensioner on my Spada. So off with the tank, seat, tappet cover, out with the cams, out with the tensioner. Seemed all OK, apart from a slight movement as it locks into place, which is probably the noise, so all back together so I can ride to church. Simple enough to work on bike, but why that stupid tensioner design!!!

On my CR125 I have been rebuilding the shock. I hope in the future they make these things easier to work on! Had to grind the shaft to remove peening and also drill holes to remove snap rings. Other than those two hurdles it does come apart easier. Went past Honda and got some shock oil so now waiting on the parts. No doubt once I have that done the bottom end will go on it since it's the only thing I am yet to look at but at least the suspension will be mint!

Rode to Dorrigo the other day and noticed some issues... Going uphill & bogging down. Twisting throttle more & nothing happening... towards the end of the journey, the nasty beginnings of a tankslapper at 70km/h. Front wheel bearings I think. Will have to replace them here. Got bearings today from coffs.
