First fix on the new Ninja. Fuel gauge on the 2012 EX250J was buggered, only showing half. Pulled the tank off and cleaned the pickup with a cotton tip and removed all the gunge from the little wire reel that the arm slides across. Fuel meters correctly now! Booyah
Got a set of spline sockets today to finally investigate exactly what happened to my 1st MC14 engine out of the MC22. My suspicions were confirmed when I cracked the head off the block - valve broke off. The mystery was how it managed to run! I rode my bike home on 2 cylinders as I had already begun to source a new engine as a 'just in case' and knew it wasn't worth fixing if it did go bang. I'm just harvesting some bolts so if anyone wants the transmission or side covers or stator etc (i.e parts not affected by the damage) let me know. I'm keen to get rid of it all!
Pretty sure it's an L (1991). This broken engine has been in my garage for 3 years or so now but never had the sockets to crack it open. The little Cibby is back running strong now as I sourced an engine a month after this one gave up. I just was sick of having to scrounge around to find Honda bolts so decided to buy the right sockets and get into it, and would like to make space in the garage
Well, today I started the bike after 18months/2years, this marks the end of bogging and sanding the tank and plastics that have been ongoing for so long (procrastination, mostly). It is the longest time I've owned a bike, 3 years. So much work has gone into it (not that you can see), but I still haven't ridden it, ever! Nearly ready for a roadworthy, except I can't afford it. But I'll just have to sell it to pay my bills, now. Boo!
I still haven't pulled the head off the mc22 engine I broke a valve on at QR in 2008. I didn't manage to embed it into the piston like you did though, just lodged it sideways in the valve seat. Still managed to finish the lap and ride the bike onto the trailer though.
So i took apart the CBR engine and sure enough, the internals weren't actually that bad. The cylinder in which the valve dropped is probably easily repairable but the head is stuffed. Plenty of other good parts though. I made a post here. Pretty cheap deals. Things like the transmission and clutch have almost no wear just from a visual inspection. Went out and redlined the Fizz a few times on the back roads ...... and took the Zeal for a spin ..... waited till I was out of sight of @Linkin before doing wheelstands down the street just kidding
Pulled my carbys off the fzr and started to clean them up. Inside the first one was pretty messy. Brown sludge that had dried up. All O rings looked okay but will probably still buy new ones. I must have had my weetbix this morning as I broke one of the brass bolts Will see if I can attach photos!
Long time no post. How's everyone been? I haven't done much work on the Zeal since I finally go the bugger running properly. But I have obtained myself a genuine Yamaha service manual for it (also covers the FZR250s too). Only problem is the things in Japanese as you'd expect coming from Japan. SO does anyone know of any free good programs that can translate pages of foreign text to English?
You can buy the Brass nut's new from Yamaha or ebay etc Linkin would know anything you need to know about them check out his Zeal thread too- http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/linkins-fzx250-zeal.8764/ I've been cleaning up my back rim a bit more today Here's a sneak peek
I believe Google offers the ability to translate webpages, if you open the file in a browser window, or Google translate Japanese and they do a box translation (a sentence/paragraph at a time) and you copy and paste. They are not very good with grammar, but you'll get the words. Apple Macs had a translation widget like that, too.
Been doing a service on the mighty V5. The sales brochure said it was a four valve OHC, but I could only find a camshaft and two valves. Think something must have got lost in the translation from Chinese to English. Very easy to adjust valve clearances with eccentric rocker spindles and a lock bolt. Will be getting rid of the green water and replacing with the waterless coolant I use in the other 'wet' bikes.
