Help ZXR250c - Where are the various adjustments on the carbs?

    I know, i know- noob level question, but the photocopied pictures on the pages in the online manual are so dark as to be unusable for me. I've looked through the Litetek install how-to thread and for some reason it's just not clicking.

    I can't rebuild the carbs, because i'm still waiting on the gaskets to show up. In the interim i'd like to see if it's an adjustment issue.

    I've spent the last week rebuilding the petcock twice, and draining, cleaning and lining the fuel tank. All i wanna do is ride, and every time I ride I end up pushing it home with fueling issues. I see 4 easily accessible screws with plastic collars around them, are these the screws that need to be set to 2.whatever turns?

    if i build a manometer, it taps into the current 4 vac lines in place of petcock vacuum, etc right? I have one i built for my ducati, but it only handles 2 at a time for obvious reasons.. Time to build another one I guess... but it'd be nice to know where to hook it up. :)

    If you are balancing the carbs, use the vacuum stubs on inlet manifolds. The screws you are talking about are the drain screws for each carbs.

    I THINK so, but I dont know.

    It'd make sense. I'm having similar issues to the gentleman with the thread about his bike crapping out at 12k. I have a variable crap-out RPM, but the same basic problem- go to hard/too high in the RPM and the bike loses RPM and doesn't run for a few minutes. Eventually it restarts and I can get home. Last night it required choke to start once it'd died, but typically it doesn't.

    Feels like i'm outpacing the fuel feed, but i have no way to guarantee it offhand.

    Good to know those are drains, I won't touch 'em! Anyone have a pic of the carbs in the bike with big arrows to where the adjustments all live since apparently I can't brain good, and need the cardboard-paged, chewable and washable version of how to work on these bikes today? The Duc has flatslides, I don't have any of these pains there so it's new to me!

    I'd strip and clean the carbs. Check float height. Renew fuel line and vacuum pipes. While you are on, ditch the vacuum valve. Make sure your fuel lines aren't longer than needed as they could suffer heat lock.

    Yep, basically the full-meal deal. Definiately in line to do those once the gaskets get here from Thailand. Afraid to tear it apart before then. Spares don't exactly exist stateside. I had enough trouble with petcock gaskets- i don't wanna play the "whats it offa" game at the dealer again. :)

    Have a look at Megazip. They have lots of parts available. I was nervous placing first order, but everything worked fine. Took about 2 weeks to get parts from Japan. They also have US warehouse, so if parts were used on US models, you could get them there.

    Air Fuel mix is 2.5 turns out + or - 1/4 turn

    My plumbing looks solid so far- I'm at the point where i'm working my way to/in the carbs at this point. Thanks for the easy-mode photo!

    How in hell do they expect you to adjust those ON the bike? Damn!

    I'd replace pipework anyway. You can silicon turbo vacuum hose really cheap. 1m should be enough. Any vacuum leaks will kill your power. Also, air breather on top of carbs will cause bike to run lean if it's leaking.

    I just pulled my carbs apart....i had to absolutely butcher the float seats out as thy were stuck in like they'd been glued...was a bit ticked off because the foot needles had obviously been changed at some stage in the last 10 years ;-) but the rest of the bits look like they've been stuck there of nearly 30 years...luckily complete rebuild kits are only $38 each, as in per pair of carbs. the float tabs look like they all over the show as well. My problem was the bike would start, rev up fine idle ok... go ride for 500 metres... push bike back home 500m...haha.... no vacuum issues as all the pipes are good. so... total rebuild..... all the screws have been replaced by a butcher and some stripped...found one snapped off on the airbax side and a couple leaky seals on the bowls... this bike is a birch to work on :-( I often look at my ducati and think why did i bother with a 250 for a run about ! cheers

    Most bike's come with a factory tool kit which include's a JIS screwdriver but a lot of people don't bother to use them.
    Sound's like it's not the bikes' fault, its just one that has been worked on by a butcher

    Yeh...its been poorly maintained...cant complain i picked it up registered and running for $500....so i dont mind spending a couple hundred getting it runing nicely...need to paint the calipers and replace the front discs...and itl be a go..;-)

    Yeah ripped the carbs out a couple days ago. Fired the vac pump as suggested and redid the lines to the manifolds.

    When I pulled out the carbs, one of the manifolds wasn't tight, there was gravel (not literally) in the float bowls, and my fuel tank liner stained my fuel and floats pink. So awesome. Ugh. Now i'm waiting on my Litetek gasket set, and i ordered a new petcock from Megazip since my rebuild started leaking at the diaphragm late last week. At least it's supposed to rain all week, I don't feel like i'm missing out.


    Hahahahahahah TRUE STORY! I put about 650km on the Ducati this weekend- hoping it wasn't the last good run of the season. I been staring at the duc parked behind the 250 every night in the garage and going "I could be riding right now... but nooooooooo" lol
