Yesterday I cleaned all the earwax outta my brake calipers, and then tried the manometer out.

Tubing was too small. Need to rebuild it with bigger tube. Whoops! ;)

New caliper piston should be in Tuesday!

My first shipment of parts arrived this morning from Japan... I didn't get a chance to open it up till late today and I have already stripped most of the bits off the swing arm so it can be stripped, blasted and painted...
Interesting that the FZR swing arm is around 18mm shorter pivot point to axle then the SRX.
I am pretty happy with the service etc so far... I have just ordered my second shipment.. and it should be the last one for this bike...
I didn't hear from my blaster today so will chase him up tomorrow... I really want it back so I can get into it on the weekend.
I small amount of welding and then some filling and finally painting... hopefully

Well it is 2 weeks today that I got back home from the trip to Texas. The gas guzzler / zzr600 has been taken apart more times than I care to remember and pleased to say some progress has been made.

Many thanks to all who offered advise on why my bike was consuming such huge quantities of fuel.
Have to thank the parts manager at TeamMoto Kawasaki at Maroochydore for the assistance provided, his knowledge and willingness to share same has been greatly appreciated.

The carbs have been on and off many times in past 2 weeks, jets removed and cleaned with threebond as well some passages not prior looked at. Blocked air passages are now cleaned and clear of junk which I think had an impact on my fuel usage.

Checked coils / leads / caps to make certain all was in order as at one point unable to get any spark ??? I cranked perhaps a little to much and ended up flattening the battery. And overnight trickle charge and we were back with great spark on all pots.

Next port of call will be @kiffsta's place to get the carbs balanced and a little fine tuning, with hope that my fuel issue is hopefully a thing of the past.

In the interim have taken to giving the bike a good clean, amazing how many bugs I'm still removing from the trip.

This morning it was time to see if all the work done on my bike in recent weeks had made any difference ???
Started it up, very smooth and I headed out of our estate, seemed a little vague in the corners....tire pressures must be low.
Rode down to Maroochydore and the bike was running so well, pick up down low was excellent as compared to before.
Well she certainly needed air......pressures were well down. Like a new bike with the correct pressures, sun out feeling pretty pleased with myself.
Next set of lights a guy in a ute cut me off  was about to give pursuit and thought better of it and 200 meters up the road the boys in blue pulled him over :D had a smile on my dial all the way home.

    Life is good......sometimes :thumb_ups:

Sorted through all my parts laying around in groups... and they are now in different groups... usable and not for this bike... :)
Then got down to welding some tabs onto the frame for the new rear cowl I received from Japan... well received 2 of the 3 parts... so I also have a claim in with Jauce... that will be interesting.
I found I really need to grab some scrap steel and practice with this little 240v Mig (gasless). It was a used one from Ebay and had no manual etc so I am just guessing at the settings...
The welds didn't take long but the grinding to clean them up tool a lot longer... lol
Tomorrow I will look at doing the revised mount for the rear sets... maybe.

I need to try and find out the Fork tube spacing on an SRX600 to see if it is the same as the FZR250... otherwise I will have to have a new top yoke machined to take the Gauges and move the ignition barrel to one side.

I cleaned up my bike trailer so I can sell it more easily. I had my uncle paint it and it looked good.. but I needed to haul my bikes from VIC to QLD and the paint was still slightly damp. Very slightly. So it was a little worse for wear. No problem though, a hours of touching up and it looks good! Also had someone come look at the trailer... while the paint was still wet!

Then I watched some MotoGP racing! And then I tried to fit new body work to my NSR but I think I need to bite the bullet and get the MC21 exhausts from TYGA has the MC18 ones are a different shape. For now, the stock ones will do!

Well, my little tigerblade is playing up like a 2nd hand lawn mower, in fact its new name is Victa because it is a right bastard. The problem is that its dropping a cylinder at idle, sometimes 2, under WOT (Wide Open Throttle), she goes like a cut snake. The issue i have is that at the lgihts, she sometimes stalls or I have to rev it past 7000rpm to get her off the line. I did buy some genuine carb boots from @xcitebikes, alas that didnt fix it.

I have always had a feeling that it is a fuel issue, my carbs were rebuilt using a litetek kit, in desperation, I bought a 2nd hand MC22 that had been a major crash, some of the parts off that bike helped @Damus get back on the road. I kept the carbies, these too were cleaned and tested and under WOT, she went like a scalded cat, but again it was dropping cylinders at idle.
I tested the coils and lead to lead, I was getting a reading of about 25 ohms, Mr Honda says 23-37 ohms is good. I also removed the coils, cleaned the section that bolts to the frame and I also snipped a few mm off the ends and re threaded the caps. One final test was to swing the coils around while the meter was attached in case one of the leads were failing, these tested fine while being moved and the meter stayed on 25 ohms.

Earlier on in the week, I decided to get the meter out and test every circuit, what I did notice is my charging system seems a tad low, under load I am only getting low 13v at the battery. I pulled the regulator plug off and performed a diode test and she passed. I tested the AC voltage on my stator that was within spec, so here I am scratching head wonder WTF. I had to go to Perth on Thursday for a funeral and ended up having a chat with my uncle Mick who is a auto electrician, I showed him a vid of the bike running on my phone and he felt there is a wire in my loom that has heated up in the past and has lost its ability to move current around, this why under higher load the bike runs on all 4, he gave me a few simple impedance tests to run find the culprit. I also checked the pulse coil, that was well with in spec.

    Vid on my phone

I flew back in Brisbane yesterday and decided to get stuck into it this morning, I removed the harness off my parts bike and checked for damage. The plug to reg had been cut off so I checked my spares box and found a plug with tails which I bought from @xcitebikes a while back, I stripped the wires back on the loom, made my joins, soldered them and put heat shrink over them. I fitted the harness and it started but sounded like it was running on 3, I hooked up my cartune and the balance on number 4 was really out, so I then balanced them and now she is running heaps better. I didn't get a chance to play this arvo as I achieved one of my bucketlist items today, I went and saw the Screaming Jets in concert at my local pub, they were amazing, Gleeso is ******* nuts. I am going to see him in March as the front man to The Angels.

    gleeso.JPG

I hope this is sorted as I really want to ride it, will try and reassemble it tomorrow night.

    Today's test run

Sounds like it was a good afternoon.. Sreaming Jets are great... The Angels without Doc are just not the same... but Gleeso keeps the memories alive.... I first saw the Angels at the Horden in Sydney where they opened for Meatloaf.... many many years ago... and they blew good old Meat to the weeds...

@kiffsta have you done valve and compression test? It could show similar symptoms.

The valve clearances were done about a year ago (just before I picked up the bike) if you listen to the video you can hear the engine note has changed dramatically, the MC22 burble at idle is definitely there, I am somewhat hopeful that its sorted.

So I finally finished rebuilding the brakes (the ninja 250 small piston is confirmed a direct drop in for the zxr front caliper pistons!) and then got on rebuilding the manometer. Restricted it way down and went to fire the bike... which wouldn't stay running. I went to see Soilwork last night and came back this morning only to find I'd left the key on. Recharged the battery and put the fuel valve on prime- and accidentally forgot about it. Tried to crank the bike and it wouldn't turn over and acted hydrolocked. Got angry, and went to a Sounders game. Watched us DEMOLISH Dallas in the MLS cup quarterfinals while I let the fuel drain out of the cylinders and it cranked right over once I got home.... but would only run on full choke and then sucked all the fluid outta the manometer past the restrictors I made!

so I said screw it, flipped the bike off and came inside to whine on the internet lol. I want to swear a lot right now.

Picked up the MC22 after getting the new tyres fitted. Was ridiculously cautious on the way home but since virtually every rider I know has told me their '...dropped it on the first corner...' story when talking about new tyres I consider getting it home safely was a win:lolsign:
I'll be careful for a while but they already feel less 'squirmy' and more predictable than the old, old Battleaxes that they replaced :)
