    Hey guys !
Loving all the stories and issues I have read and the very helpful responses !
Just wanted to talk about my zx2r journey!
So it started as me buying one off a guy in Melbourne for 1350 , working !
Only thing he told was it needed a new switch block and fork seals so I was fine with that.
Roll started it and got riding I live in bendigo so was up for a first big ride , after half an hour had realised that my indicator had fallen off , then due to not paying attention earlier and just being happy about the new bike didn't check properly , I seen that the tail had been cut off and indicators when screwed on by cheap , 2 dollar L brackets from the hardware -_-
So the indicator had fallen off and was hanging as the idiot didn't even use washers where he screwed it in and it ripped out of the plastic
So taped it up to the fairings and kept going
About 30 mins later , was noticing flat spots in my acceleration, didn't think much of it at the time.
Kept going along and about 20 mins away from bendigo noticed my headlights were slowly dying as if the battrry was going flat then also my bike then ran out of fuel -_- annoying so got my friends who took me down and had followed me back , to go get some fuel and bring it back

Filled it up and push started it and fanged it as hard as I could , got about 5 mins up the road to just before a service station and everything went to ship and wouldn't push start again and no lights on my dash would even turn on ......

After waiting 3 hours finally got someone to come out at midnight to get my bike back to mine

Had a mechanic friend come over the next day to check everything out and come to conclusion that the stator and reg/rec had gone :(

So after a month it was close to finishing but needed a stator
Came across a working 92 c model for 400 so brought it and yanked the stator and rec from it and put it in mine

    Finally it's done :D ......
    Nope
Went to put the sump bolt back in and the threads in the pan ripped out -_-

So I got the sump pan and changed it and was finally done and it started and ran

Oh also changed the clutch cover plate as the one that was on it had a large chunk ripped out of the top of it -_-
And also the tail from the 400 buck bike haha

    And finally she runs !

Was running fine but noticed a rattle
And guess what ?! Cam chain -_-
So attempted to tension the chain and I didn't do it correctly -_- so when I turned it over it skipped and the cams jumped out of alignment and also something else (can't remember what the mechanic said exactly )

So now it's at the mechanic as mentioned above and he attempted to fix it but he said it wasn't worth it
Suggested I bring him the engine and drop that in since it has lower Kms and would be cheaper and smarter

So yeah that's the extent of it haha
Long story bur hopefully I get a call this coming week and it's good to go !

Let me know what your thoughts are !:)

    Quite an introduction there.

Jumped timing - if you are lucky it will not have bent the valves or anything else. I hope you have learned to wind engines over by hand first, when doing camshaft timing :thumb_ups:

Bolts pulling the thread out - use the service manual to determine the required torque for the bolt. Then, you use a torque wrench do up the bolts, not a breaker bar or ratchet... Don't have a torque wrench? Get one. I have a fancy Warren & Brown 321500, but you don't need an expensive one to do the job, just one with the right range... you're not fixing a diesel locomotive engine, so no need for 1000ft/lbs torque setting.

I'm in NW melbourne (watergardens area) so if you want to bring it round some stage let me know. We can take the head off the engine and see what the damage is... maybe even repair it.

Simpler to drop the engine in, but having a working spare is a good backup too :)

Yes unfortunately that Is what happened haha :(
He also said he couldn't get it to turn over more then once then stopping
He said he could fix it all up and etc then do a compression test but there was no garuntee that it would work again plus it was a costly timely manner :(

I'm happy to let mechanics do most of the work unless there's someone in my area or at least near it that is familiar with doing work on these bikes ?:)

Also wondering if anyone has any info on working these bikes ?
Bored out , enlarged pistons , derestricted? :)
Would be curious to see what power I could push out of the bike instead of the stock 45hp I think ?
Actually mine is the 42hp model I think

Wouldn't bother trying to get more power out of it, you're better off getting a bigger bike.

If you want to bring the engine over to mine we can have a look at it at some stage if you want. Most of the principles are transferable between engines although the designs might be slightly different.

I wouldn't be trying to turn over an engine that has skipped a tooth, you're risking serious damage to the engine there... has your "great mechanic" bothered to take off the top cover and ensure the timing is correct...?

So , got a call from my mechanic! Got the new engine in and everything is running great , he took the carbs from my old engine as they were in better condition , just needs to balance the carbs and put an oil filter in also he said he pressure washed everything and replaced all gaskets!
he is organising a rwc also so I can go straight to vic roads and book in for rego, so I should have it back by Wednesday :D so damn excited ! Have ridden the bike 2 times since I owning it ! Nearly 4 months !

So it's gunna cost 1800 to 2000 for my bike....
Then I would still need to goto vic roads to get registration. .....
Must have my faith in this bike is basically gone...:(
Unless it rides with nothing going wrong mechanically for at least a year I may even look at selling it and getting something newer and cheaper and easier to get parts for ...

Was only expecting the bill to be around 1200 max
1700 is my take home a month

ouch, but its done and you will have a beast of a bike. I have to be honest, once the fiddly stuff is done, they are quite reliable if you look after them, ie oil changes every 5000kms and ride them regularly.

Just wait to you ride it, it will all be worth it :thumb_ups:

I agree with Kiffsta. If all is well, you'll love this bike. Trust me, you'll scare the crap out of a lot of modern bikes. Fingers crossed.
