I presume your looking for around 13 - 15V DC and about 12.5 at redline I believe.

    Back to work again
Carbs were ruined got @Jackkent on the job and got running beautiful !
Since changing carbs and throughly cleaning and rebuilding them it's not sticking at 4k RPM anymore !
Running like a dream , just have to clean and tighten chain ,new spark plugs and I'm laughing !

Previous carbs weren't giving me a lot of mileage :/ 120kms to a tank so hopefully get a lot better mileage now

Also was dropping cylinders but guessing that was due to carbs pushing to much fuel and fouling plugs !

Running like an absolute dream the past 2 days ! Never had this much power or this much response before ! Starts first turn everytime , choke works now , doesn't reek of fuel like it used to !
Got new spark plugs and noticed that the wrong ones had been put in there , they were C8... can't remember but they were a lot shorter the the CR9E plugs and they were foul as hell

Just wondering if I can put 150 /60 on my c model ?:)
I currently have 140 /70 but I want wider instead of more profile or whatever it's called
Also a good place online to buy tyres for cheapish :)

Back to having issues again .....
Nothing carb wise, there amazing !
I'm thinking it's the pick up coil after looking around ...
Because my readings seem fine for my coil packs

And it starts easy as and runs great for about 20 mins then it starts dropping a cylinder :(
Also I let it warm up for 5 minutes the other day then rode 10 minstrel down the road to the fuel station , ran fine , switched it off to fill up the tank then after that it wouldn't start. .... had to wait 20 mins for it to cool down then I was able to start it and got half way home ( 10 mins from where I was to get home ) and start dropping a cylinder, but once I got over 8 grand rpm it would jump back to 4 cyls

New plugs, new leads , rebuilt carbs , so guessing that the pickup coil is the only thing it could be :(
Any suggestions guys ? My bike is so close to being 100% perfect , just need to fix this one issue !

Pick up coil should measure between 372Ω and 558Ω set your meter to 2000Ω to test it
Take your multimeter for a ride with you and measure it again when it start's playing up.
As the winding's get warm/hot a fracture in the copper wire's can open up and cause issue's.

What my67xr suggests is on the money. Electrics often fail when hot. When you have a bike this old a spare set of ignition components is a good idea. Recurring fuel problems are usually caused by rusty tanks.

Ok so just measured mine with the bike off, hasn't been ridden for about 15 hours and it was showing 432

Thing is how am I gunna test it while riding because I need access to the plug , which means I need to take tank , seat , and airbox off

You could make up a temporary jumper lead, make sure the end's of the wire's/terminal's are insulated etc
You can get these crimp on wiring adapter's at car shop's, and run a lead off to outside your fairing

Or what type of connector's does it use between the stator and main harness?
    Anything like this ?

If so you you can get them off a jap car at the wrecker's, or buy them from most Car shop's like Repco, Supercheap, Autobarn etc for about $5
Then cut a few length's of wire to connect it all up, crimp the terminals on and slip them into the plug/socket, and on one end you need to have 2 wire's crimped together in the terminal, one will hang off and have it come outside of your fairing for easy access
Here's a real rough diagram to give you an idea on what i mean
Then plug your stator into the new piggy back adapter, and plug the other end into your harness with the extra stator wire's hanging out to the side

You will 2 or 3 of these depending on how many wire's come from your stator

I don't know if it's any help by I bench tested my coils and then heated them with my wife's hair dryer to see how then when when heated. (My problem turned out to be a carby issue.)

Thanks heaps mate but that is too much of a screw around haha I didn't end up finding a way around it but not sure on these readings ?
I ended up spraying the plugs with electronics cleaner and then ran it for a good 20 plus mins and it didn't drop any cylinders
Rode it to work tonight and it seemed fine
Guess the ride home in a few hours will tell me even more haha

    Here's a video, how's the readings ?:)

Got a few questions guys :/

1.hve noticed occasionally when I'm sitting at traffic lights on idle it will drop a cylinder for a sec then once I go it kicks back in , strange thing Is that my bike isnt usually hot , it's about just at the first red line
Could it be because it not hot enough ? Because last night I sat there on the side of the road on idle for 5 mins and let it heat up to halfway and it didn't drop so wtf haha

2.somethings wrong nd I hope it's not bad to ride it because I need to for work and I have been riding it , when I ride I can hear a like grinding noise coming from the chain side up near my foot , the noise is only there when I'm riding , If the bike is off or clutch in it will not make the noise , only when the chain is being driven

    Any ideas ?
    Other then that going great

    1. If you are correct and "dropping a cylinder" at idle its unlikely to be electrical based on your description UNLESS a spark plug is partially fowled. It is likely a carb clean is in order, other possibility is some kind of vacuum or fuel line problem.
Easy way to isolate the issue is to wait till bike is cold, start it up and let the "cylinder drop" and feel the extractors heat, one should be significantly colder than the others if this is true. If that is the case you can diagnose from there and isolation is key in these kind of scenarios.
    2. grinding noises can be misleading, your description SCREAMS cam chain tension. I would confirm it wasnt the drive chain with typical maintenance (tension, lube, sprocket wear etc) if the noise persists you can bet its your cam chain.
If that is the case the chain is either done or the tensioner isnt working properly. If it is an auto tensioner replace it with a manual tensioner that fits and you should be back to happy days with allot more power.

    Thanks mate !
Problem with the cylinder dropping I it basically does it whenever it feels like it haha so it's kinda hard to narrow it down haha :/ just had carb rebuild and clean about 2 months ago too so don't think it would be that

The grinding noise isn't the cam chain as its coming from the opposite side of the bike down at the actual chain near the front sprocket

Really need to figure out what this is :(
