I have a spreadsheet of needle and emulsion tube sizes on my links page
    http://www.litetek.co/links.html

Jets'R'Us have most of the commercially available Mikuni emulsion tubes variants and their model numbers on their website. It does not include our BDST type.

yeah I've trawled through most available information I could access, FZR400 & 600 as well as YZF600 bandit 250...etc etc etc basically anything which used similar carbs which might provide a potential alternative for emulsion tubes

none of the bikes I found with potential similarities used an N-8 or smaller needle jet which could potentially be reamed to appropriate size.

My aim is to eliminate the wear because of the slop in the slide/needle tolerance, it's a good thing that the keyster kits are available, I just don't want to be replacing needles/jets as often as tyres

@ruckusman I think I can overcome the emulsion tube issue.
Getting the needles to hold firmly in the centre is the other issue. You fix that one :)

Yamaha has done that for us with the Zeal. Easier solution than different slides like the 3LN6/7, plastic retainer and an additional spring on the standard setup. If I can score a set of cheap zeal carbs somewhere I'll send you some bits and we can do testing on the 3LN carbs here.

Well I picked up some zeal carbs yesterday, stamped 3YX, however unfortunately they have the same needle retention mechanism as the pic

On the upside, the hole for the needle through slides can benefit from a combined sleeve insert/washer, as it is very loose - I have an idea in that department, then it comes to securing the top of the needle - I have an idea in that department also

I'm hoping I can find suitable candidates at the local hobby store

So only the 3LN6/7 has the good version

Difficult to know which is the better version, I like the look of the "Zeal" ones I've seen with the screw retainer, but I have not yet seen any in person so that's an unqualified opinion
I'd say that the ones I picked up were Zeal, he had no reason to misrepresent them, what's the chance that 3LN6/7 carb components with the spring retainer were used on early Zeal carbs?

At any rate I have a lot of possible component sources for a really solid solution whirling in my head :D

Ok I am all mixed up now. So there are some Zeal with the good one and some with just the little spring?
My 3TJ has the little springs but still showing wear on the needles.

You and me both, story goes like this, guy that sold them to me said they came as spares with his Zeal, accordingly he sold them as Zeal carbs.

They have 3YX stamped on them, which spec pages confirm are Zeal carb bodies.

Now I was of the understanding that the Zeal carbs had the screw retention system for the Jet needle, speculating that this may not be the case with all of them.

I'd take a shot in the dark and say the Zeal carbs may come in both flavours, depending on when the bike was manufactured, I suspect that left over 3LN6/7 carbs may have been installed on some Zeals.

    Clear as mud??

Just sneak down to Tamworth, the Fizzer factory has cornered the market on 3LN6 carburettors.

Bigger hole mean's more air can be mixed with fuel, better for atomisation'

I have some PWK emulsion tube's that have 32 fine hole's, standard is 16 hole's
The tube's with more hole's let the engine rev a lot cleaner

Has anyone thought about Nickel Plating their new needle's and emulsion tube's ?
This would make them last longer with a harder coating, and it's also corrosion resistant.

I can't see the tiny plating thickness difference causing any major issue's

Nickel Plating your old emulsion tube's could also be a way of fixing worn tube's, it'll just need a few layer's of nickel to build it up before Micro Reaming them in a lathe
You can mask up the emulsion tube so you only plate the top inner section

It can be done easily at home too
    http://www.instructables.com/id/High-Quality-and-safe-Nickel-Plating/

You can also buy Electroless Nickel Plating kit's from place's like this from $230 AU -
    http://www.caswellplating.com.au/store/store.php/products/en1-electroless-nickel-kit-24-litres
Just think of all the other part's you could plate too when doing a tidy up or restoration etc

I have just picked up some Nickel Sulphate and will have a go at plating some emulsion tubes and jets over the next few day's
I might start a thread and do a 'How To' on it.

Very interesting approach - watching with interest, I assume you have some worn needle jets to offer up to this process.

HAH of course you do you, you own a fizzer
