Spent some of the day working on the '03 CR250R. Originally I bought it and it was pretty toast and I honestly lost any enthusiasm working on it after I found out the cylinder was stuffed. I slowly kept working on it though.

Recently bought a '09 CRF450R with a blow up transmission to use as a donor for parts. For forks, pegs, controls, triples, front plastics, wheels and brakes were a big upgrade. Today I swapped over the seat cover onto the other bike and put a set of the old pegs. For some reason the bike came with 3 extra sets of pegs so I swapped them over on the '03 CR125R too.

I'm also planning on adding the HPSD (steering damper) from the CRF450R so I need to relocate the CDI box from the steering tube. So far my best idea has been under the shock mount on the frame, above the carburetor although I don't want too much water and dirt to get into it. My next idea was making a bracket for inside the air box, right below the seat although this means it would need to be temporarily put to the side when changing the filter... but at least it'll be high and dry!

Also bought a set of new radiators (ebay) and sprockets / chain for it from MX Store - surprisingly good prices.

bought two new tyres and oil yesterday for the 250RS, I'll get the tyres fitted on the newly painted rims tomorrow.
Topped up the oil and started her up and she races up to 4,000 rpm and then dies, more tuning needed I think after the new air valve was refitted.

Took my Maico 250 to the North Star Trail Ride in northern NSW with my son. It is a fund raising ride (no racing- yer right) through properties surrounding the small village of North Star with camping at the showground. Guestamate around 2000 riders were there, which makes for some interesting times on the trail. There was everything from tight gully runs to rocky hillclimbs to flat out blasts across cultivation paddocks. Kids on PeeWee 50's, local lads on farm bikes to big bore motocross bikes.
Everything is covered in fine dust and I am absolutly knackered. Looking forward to next year.

Some photos of a small section of the campground.

That looks like awesome fun Doc.
Nothing gives the body a good flogging like riding dirt bikes. I think I would last three minutes.

Wow, that does look like a lot of fun.

I finally managed to get out of the house and knock off a few tasks. My trail bike was due for a service and ride, so changed the oil, fuel and checked plug etc. Went for a 50km ride in the Coongulla fire trials to blow the cobwebs out (me and the bike!).

Also managed to get to Yarram where the CB750 club is building/restoring 3 bikes for a charity auction to support the children's hospital. 10 club members showed up for the weekend workshop. CB350/4 is ready for an engine swap from a donor bike. CB500 is being put back together and CB750 project is stripped/parted and getting ready to be sent off for powder coating and paint. One of the club members has the same water blaster as @kiffsta so all parts being cleaned. These 3 should look better than the day they came off the factory floor when the club is finished with them. One of the CB750 bikes I stripped had it's last rego sticker hidden under the seat (which was rusted shut). Bike hadn't been run for 35 years. It was bought from a young man who was going to do it up and never got around to it (sounds familiar?).

Nice bike. Pity some clown will try and make it into a 'cafe' bike.

Awesome looking bike, @Murdo is on the money "again", sad that it can't be restored to it's original condition.
Heading down tomorrow so will see it before it goes......looking forward to that.

Well nothing actually on the bike but I have purchased an almost new set of inlet manifolds, a new coil with snazzy red reinforced cable and red cap plus a repair kit for the petcock on the SRX250... all through Jauce so not exactly cheap but the inlet manifolds are like unicorns and these look to be in excellent condition so that makes up for it.

got the wheels back this afternoon, poxy Michelin M38 front tyre is 'the right size' 3.50 x 18, but bloody tyre is a good bit taller.
I'm going to have to get some metal strip of holes to raise the mudguard up a bit to make it all fit, the usual one step forward and two steps back, missus says it keeps me out of mischief, I could do without the hassle though.
And the indicators have stopped working as well..........

Finally washed off all the dirt and crap from my Maico from the weekend at North Star. Now just have to weld up the broken barkbuster and do a service and will be ready for the next outing.
Vid to give an idea what its about.

Correct size is of course 3.00 x 18, it came to me at 6.30 this morning....luckily I know a man who knows a man who has the right tyre and I know a man who'll fit it on the rim properly and then I can put it on the bike and make some progress at last

Rummaged through all my various boxes of parts till I found my original SRX Carbies and the reworked inlet manifolds...
I then hooked up the ignition barrel and all the various connections the PO had disconnected and then realised I didnt have some of the fuel line I needed and more importantly fuel...
So I connected the battery and turned it over a few times... no drama there... cranked it again with my hand on the inlet and nearly sucked my hand in... which is good.
So off to Supercheap early in the morning for some fuel line and get some fuel on the way back... hopefully I will see if this SRX has life tomorrow...

I went to start the DR to chase feral cows (yes, a bike that has a practical use), but it wouldn't start. The throttle cables were seized, so I thought it would be easier to finish the other DR (I have 3 and a half of them, don't you judge me) but it had no fuel tap and the other tank is different so the tap wouldn't fit, so back to swapping the cables (and tube assembly). It works better now, even though the cables were different. I'm going to need new ones, for the other bike. I had 3 other bikes to work on that I didn't even get to look at. I hate Saturdays, so full of disappointments and frustrations.

So.. time to see if the latest addition to the SRX250 family will run
I jury rigged the old coolant overflow bottle from the FZR into a testing fuel tank... then replaced a small hose from the float bowl to the main jet on the secondary carby, had a quick look inside my original carbies while I was at it and it looked horrid.. dirt scum etc but all I wanted to do was see if it would run...
Hooked it all up.. connected the battery from the Across.... wound it over a bit with no fuel and then released the sophisticated fuel tap (vice grips) and turned it over....
And to my great surprise... it fired immediately... and proceeded to quickly rev to the redline...
Shut it down... wound out the idle screw and tried again... started with no choke... idles very nicely... hesitant to rev but that is to be expected having seen what is in the float bowl...
I am very impressed... this thing apparently has not run for 3 to 4 years.. and it fires and idles first go...
Now I can start pulling it all down.. with most of it going to a new home in Glen Innes... eventually.
I will upload a video later on.. now to disassemble all my handiwork.. :)

    Sound's good.
Not having an air filter wouldn't help the revving either
