i had the seized slide housing problem on a set of carbs just last week actually, even after putting it in the parts washer at 80 celcius she was still seized solid, nearly broke my thumb trying to press it out, so i sprayed some penetrating fluid all around the edges and left it for 5 mins and they came straight out no problems.

ok so things have not gone well. I used the one emulsion tube that i got out and sanded it so it was a bit thinner to use as a tool to press the other emulsion tubes out. I put the carb in boiling water for a while the in a jig in my vice and slowly tried to press the emulsion tube out of the carb. and i stuffed another jet housing.

Look's like you need to soak the bottom of the carby's in some Threebond Super Engine Conditioner overnight, that'll loosen up most stuff

so i'm looking at buying some more carbs. I have found a set but they just keeps saying theyre 3ln carbs. Are the 3ln1 carbs different to the newer 3ln models?

I would think you can use the 3LN1 carbs on you bike if you swapped the lot over?
Might be able to use the 3LN3 jets in the earlier carbs, they are that much different sized.

so according to that guide and the jet housing these carbs are not from a 3ln1. so by that rational i guessing I can put 3ln 3 carbs on the bike if I get a complete set? also he said that the carb ID is " 3LN 00 E935 " does anybody know what that means?

    Yeah your's are 3LN3 carb's
Pretty sure on one end (choke control end?) of the carb's there is that number printed in ink, mine is barely readable

If you get 3LN1 carb's the float level is different to 3LN3, 3ln1 is 16mm with the fuel level 9,2mm above the centre line on the fuel bowl

Either set of carbs will work, ive currently got 3ln-3 carbs on my 3ln-1, but ideally you would probably want the latest models you can get your hands on.

i suppose the easiest way you would know which ones hes selling is to get him to pull off the jet block and send you a picture as from the outside, apart from the idle adjuster they look the exact same.

below is a pic of the 3ln-3 model carb on the left and the 3ln-1 model on the right. the main difference visually is the jet channels are wider on the 3ln-1.

There are other differences in jetting etc, ill put these in the chart below, but either set will run your bike.

I run 3LN3 carbs on my 3LN1 engine no issues so far. I didn't even bother changing them from when they ran on the 3LN3. Maybe I'll need to do some tuning though, yet to be seen as bike is still on thebench.

Ohk sweet. Ive already bought all the kits for the 3ln1 carbs which could be a problem. I guess its just a case of what carbs i can find.

Don't forget this one, for the 3LN5, but might be another version of the 3LN6 3LN7 ?

So I have some 3ln1 carbs coming so i'll soak them for a while before i try pull them apart. I tried shifting through the box and seem to have a couple of false neutrals around 4th and 5th. I talked to a guy who said it might be the shims between the gears. has anybody come across this before or know the specs for the gearbox?

When moving the shift lever and finding the false neutrals are you turning the front sprocket forwards at the same time, eg back wheel off the ground ?
The gears may not be meshing properly through the dogs and not allowing it to go up through the gears properly ?

I was just rocking the bike back and forth between shifts. do you think maybe it would be different when riding it?

Very different out on the road under load and with a few RPM and a bit of oil floating about inside

Just like idling and a few revs on the stand in the driveway or workshop ... a good start but getting out on the road and giving it the beans is the true test

Get it running properly first .... and the carbs on an FZR are the biggest challenge

And by look of some of those pics above I suggest u put away the big hammer .... the carbs are 25yrs old and brass is soft to begin with .... the slide housings are always hard to get out , especially if its the first time
