Having a little trouble getting my head around this issue atm. When I turn the key to on and hit the starter with the bike in neutral it will start with the kickstand down, as it should. My issue is when I engage a gear then return to neutral as soon as i drop the kickstand the engine switches off and I can't restart it unless the kickstand is up and clutch pulled in. I am getting the neutral light on the display and the bike free wheels so I know its in neutral. Any ideas? Thanks Rob
Your sidestand switch is sticky. Give it some love with WD-40 or similar. It that doesn't fix it you may need a new switch.
Hmm, sounds more like the neutral switch is the issue, the kick stand switch seems to work. But it is an earthing switch, so if the light comes on, it should work. The wire could be damaged from the ECU to the neutral wire. Then again, if it is consistent, every start up is the same, then it could be a weird start up procedure or ECU fault.
The cdi unit is more than just an igniter, I manages the kill switch for the stand, signals for some dash inputs (mostly tacho) and whatever additional functions a manufacturer puts in. A faulty ECU seems unlikely, so if it is consistent, it might be a programming built in.
Gee I sure hope not. That means every time I lower the side stand the engine is going to stop even if im only hopping off for a couple of seconds.
Yeah I have seen that. Thats where my dilemma is. I have to turn the key off to get the bike to behave like it's ment to
If it is consistent, I'd say ECU fault (there shouldn't be a mechanical relay to play up), but if it's intermittent then wire from ECU through. The kickstand switch is fine, it's behaving normal, it is the neutral switch that's the problem.
Does your neutral light work when you first start it with the stand down ? And does it come on again after clicking it into first and then back to neutral ? I think the Hyosung's have a CDI ignition but depend's on which model i guess ? Not sure what year this wiring diagram is for, but it may help ?
I'm putting this up just in case someone else has a similar issue one day. All I've done is highlighted the wiring for the starter system. Looking at the issue im having it's very likely it's the CDI.
I think it still sound's like the kick stand switch isn't working properly Can you unplug it from the loom, and try a jumper wire across the terminal's on the main loom where the stand switch plugs in?
Just tried that. Unfortunately same issue, I'm about to pull the CDI off the bike and check the terminals for corrosion. I also noticed the clock is loosing time but thats a seperate matter
The battery is from December 2013, its holding a charge well and starts the bike first pop but im going to replace it anyway.
