Here’s a couple of current pics!
There’s mainly some surface corrosion on all the aluminium casings etc, and the wheels are pretty shoddy close up!
All the chrome is pitted on the headlight, clocks, mirrors, handlebars, pipes and rear shocks.

    But, she’s a goer! Woohoo!

    Good work!
Interesting to see the Zeal's have the fine threaded fork top's on them,
i would have thought they would be the same as the FZR fork's

The mighty Zeal lives. If you read @my67xr thread he covers sorting out float level etc in great detail. I think it all comes back to set it at standard or thereabouts.

Yeah the hesitation at 7000rpm would be float height related, you will need to adjust the mixture's again after setting it.
At least someone has the FZX250 Service Manual uploaded

I will finally know the correct float height setting for my 3LN3 once i get the service manual supplement.
I reckon it'll be very close to whatever it is set at now as my bike is running the best it ever has lately, even though my mixture screw's are set at about 1.75 turn's out atm

Yeah, I was a bit worried when I read your post about the adjusters arriving with the wrong thread pitch!
But mine went straight in. :thumb_ups:
I guess you could sell your spare ones to a Zeal rider? ;)

    I know right?
After I put in the new seal kit and got all 4 cylinders firing, it was running worse than ever!
The guy that I got the bike from said the carbs needed cleaning, but it turns out someone adjusted the heck out of everything, rather than just sorting the problem.....!
    Valuable lesson learned!
Assume nothing, and expect anything! :lolsign:

So my final float height measurement was 12mm. (Compared to about 13.5mm before I started.)
After I’d drained the float chambers and saw pretty close to equal amounts come out, I ‘assumed’ that the floats hadn’t been touched.
    How wrong I was!
Then I got the mixture screws back in to 2 turns out, from the 3.75 turns before I started!
I knew the mixture screws were too far out, but until you pointed me in the right direction, I had no idea why!
Thanks so much for your guidance. :thumb_ups:

Is there an FZX250 manual? I didn’t even realise that! How do I find it?

I was out riding yesterday, and I’ve done about 500kms since I got the Zeal registered.
The bike cutout on me in the middle of the National Park!
I picked up a rock and tapped the fuel pump and it burst back into life! :thumb_ups:
However when I got a few kms further, it cut out again. I managed to tap the fuel pump whilst riding, to get me home, but I just wanted to feed back as I previously praised my cheap Chinese eBay fuel pump!
It appears to be an issue with the electrical/pressure sensing part on the rear of the pump. Somehow when the pressure drops, the little arm doesn’t return fully to switch the pump back on. I guess me tapping it just caused the contact to close again???
I don’t know whether to report this to the eBay seller, or just bite the bullet now and order a genuine fuel pump?

Has anyone else had an issue with their aftermarket pumps, or am I the unlucky one? :idk:

You can run gravity feed on the Zeals and FZR250's if the pump is a problem.

Do you have a fuel filter between the tank and pump ?

I wasn’t sure if that was possible as the bottom of the tank is lower than the carb inlet pipe. But I suppose as long as the fuel level doesn’t go that low, to it should have enough pressure to gravity feed right????

Yes, I put a new pump, filter and hoses when I rebuilt the carbs recently. The tank was derusted and resealed at the same time, so there shouldn’t be anything to have blocked the filter yet, if that’s what you mean??

It's not a vacuum fuel tap so they are always gravity feeding unless in the off position. Needle and seats will stop the flow unless damaged. The pumps are there because the lowest portion of the tank is above the fuel bowls... it will work until the tank gets very low.

I filled up every 100kms or so anyway out of habit and I never had a problem. Still do so on my ZXR which has a vacuum fuel tap

Nah i thought if you didn't have a filter before the fuel pump something may have got into the pump and be stuck in the pressure bypass valve, assuming they have one.
Sometime's it can be a bit of rubber hose that dislodge's when you fit a hose

Hey guys! It's been a while..... So I found out the reason why I hadn't purchased a genuine fuel pump when I did the rebuild; they are not available anymore apparently..???
I contacted the Ebay seller, and they were not happy to honour the warranty, so I bought another from a different seller. it came with the wrong size pipe nipples, so after much too'ing and fro'ing, I got another, and the bike has been fine since.
If anyone needs any fuel pumps with 10mm nipples, I've now got a couple spare!

Anyhoo, the sad news is, I just sold the Zeal!
I'll be pointing the new owner towards this forum, as you guys have been awesome.
Hopefully there's some good stuff in the content of this thread to help others with similar issues?

The original part number may have been superceded.
There's still a few new genuine fuel pumps around ranging from $190 inc delivery, $280 and even up to $500 inc delivery, plus plenty of Chinese aftermarket pump's and a few Japanese aftermarket pump's
