A local mob.. Outer West Sandblasting in Penrith... and yes.. he does a great job, not too abrasive so the VIN stays legible and all the bolt holes etc dont need to be chased (which I will do anyway... just me being pedantic).
They have some lovely old car bodies etc down there waiting to be blasted..

It will be an M10 bolt. Remove it and clean the thread with a wire brush, lubricate with a little WD40 and then tighten with a combination spanner, or 3/8" drive ratchet. It is the right length to give you a good feel for the correct tightness. Generic torque tables are basically useless in my opinion because torque varies with length of thread contact, pitch, materials, lubricant or dry, and size.

Sounds like a plan .... lucky I did alter the fork height as 1 of those bolts was barely tight beforehand

Took my FZR over to Superbike Performance today looking for a cheaper option to the drag's on this sunday.
Thought i might be able to get a couple of power run's done just to check the carby's out etc
Getting a couple of power run's done is also $100, so think i'll go the drag route as it's a bit more fun for me.
I can only stay for the morning if i do go, as my son is playing footy at 1pm and it'll take an hour or so to get home from the drag's

Yamaha FZR250 speed bike, Yamaha YZ/WR250F, Kawasaki ZX2R, Honda VTR250, DR350 (x 3.5), a couple of prototypes and whatever else.
Because it takes me a week or two get things done, here is the quick run through:
Replaced oil and water seal (after having the parts for a month or 2),
Cleaned the carbies again because the bike had been sitting so long and filled a cylinder with fuel,
Oil and filter change (old oil was a good part fuel),
Cleaned rear brake and replaced with better secondhand pads, cleaned front brakes,
Took to roadworthy, needed a front tyre (13 year old tyres don't pass, found a used tyre to replace it),
Got it registered! Bit found some running issues,
Carbies off again, brakes cleaned again, carbs off again (a few more carbies removed steps), finally sorted float heights, flooding issues, did up carby boot clamps, did a crude synchronise of carbies, and crossed my fingers),
Because it rained last night, test run would be in the morning, so I built a Jerry can holder for the bike - no photo, incriminating evidence.

So the bike ran well going to work , after needing a fair bit of choke to start it and warm it up, but I think it is ready to ride! IMG_20180515_160059.jpg

Today i started playing around with another muffler for.my FZR250.
I found a cheap muffler shell, a cheap 2" hotdog, and a couple of bits of stainless exhaust pipe.

I am going to make up a straight through style muffler for the FZR to use out at the drags if i can finish it off tomorrow.
I bead blasted the muffler shell and pipe today.
Tomorrow i'll cut the hotdog up and make the inner perforated pipe fit the White Brothers muffler and make a new end cap for it.
I want to see if it makes any difference out at the drags with a free flowing exhaust.
Will do a couple of runs with the stock muffler then swap them over and do a couple with the modded WB muffler so i have something to compare it to.
Hopefully i wont need to change the jetting.
If the straight through is no good then i'll refit the original.

I thought I’d try and tune the flat spot out of my zxr , kinda wish I didn’t

After another strip and Clean of my carbs, I checked the balance with my carb tune and they were spot on. I put her back together and my test ride showed that I couldnt rev it past 10k , she would stutter , stop and I found myself pushing her back to the shed. After some serious soul searching , I fitted a brand new petcock thinking fuel starvation issues , 2nd test ride wasn’t any better , I checked every hose for leaks and couldnt find any , I could now rev to 14k but it still wasn’t right. I have a 1991 zxr in the shed so I fitted those carbs and to be honest, she is a different bike , idles cleanly revs all the way, rides like a bought one .... Texas here I come

Did a little bit on the SRX this weekend.. while looking at all the different bits I have on Saturday I decided that it was time I fixed up the belly-pan I have... I got out the big soldering iron to do this as I didnt want to put too much heat into it.. some ABS filler rod and cutting up an old side cover to fill in the missing bits.. turned out pretty nice.. It is strong but I will probably put some SS mesh into the larger broken section and to strengthen the area where the mounting hole is.. some plastic bumper filler and lots of sanding and this will be ready paint.. Happy with the result

    56374939a4cfe21378709618436436ca.jpg

I also decided to see if I could finish what I had to do on the frame... a couple of nuts welded on for blind mounts (Rearsets) and a hole or 3 drilled. All that is left now is to do a bit of skim coating where the grinder has left marks and I will be able to install the new headstock bearings and start on the swing arm.
Crankcases go off this week for machining to suit the 350 barrel and possibly some fancy work on the top triple to suit the 3WP instruments..

Must update the Project thread during the week too

You're welcome to send those carbs to me for a once over. I can run them on one of my bikes to check the rev limit & flat spot.

Didnt actually do anything on it today but I did purchase some parts.. replacement rubber dampers for the gauges, rubber absorbers for the barrel and a few little bits for @2valve that he is missing.
Then tonight I had an update to my watchlist on eBay and pulled the pin on a 1mm oversize Wiseco forged piston kit to suit the 350 barrel. I needed to have one so the machinist can bore the barrel to the piston specs.
