I managed to get a few things done or started today.. sanded back the updated repairs to the belly-pan.. then gave it a quick undercoat to make sure all the welding marks were gone... still need a little light filler in a spot or 2..
The good news is the Hot Air gun worked a charm on the sticker... and some general thinners sorted the remaining glue.
I then decided to tackle the front forks reassembly.. Hmmm after checking with @GreyImport on the total length of FZR fork tube it appears these pattern parts are about 4mm longer. when you add that to the 5 to 7mm that the Zeal caps are shorter than the FZR ones and I am about 10mm shorter in spring compression. It was quite easy to put the cap on. I noticed that when @GreyImport showed his fork internals he had a 2nd spacer and 2 extra washers.. no wonder his was hard to get done up.
What have other people used for a spacer on FZR forks? I will need at least 20mm (adding another 10 mm to what is missing).
I also found the brass washers that should have been on the capscrews were not in the box of parts.. I was sure I had put them in there.. so now I need to find 2 of them as well.. kind of a frustrating day.
But the bolts etc I cooked in my Ultrasonic came out wonderfully... Pics added

Umm yet, bit of brain fade, they would be copper washers. Hopefully my Engineering supplies have some.

I have been thinking about those adjustable caps. I am just not a fan of the blue anodized finish on the adjusters.
It would solve my problems though.
    Let me think about it

It may just dissolve in a thinner or even mild hydrogen peroxide also as some quick and dirty anodising which fades quickly anyway is fabric dyes

Spent the afternoon welding up fairings from a bike left here until my back cried 'enough'.

Not today but a couple of days ago I made this little mod to make trickle charging Sylvie's battery easier. 678059d17336237993c6bfeba374771d.jpg 4c7a2208c4663ff3ad07bca6ff837b89.jpg 6d8efcc9ef377aedcef0e2eed0bbbfd4.jpg 84592f89b14e2bd91d9c10dcfba1e1a2.jpg f260218672223ef13da94000659ef3cc.jpg 5f8f24bbdfcbc1b697247ea9a45672ab.jpg 4d3ef94757c49fedbdaa85adaecca03a.jpg

I think that I've seen PVC pipe used.

PVC pipe will work - the plumbing stuff is damn strong and you may be able to get a joiner of the appropriate length - I haven't used it personally

Where did you get the engine gasket set from? Genuine or aftermarket?

I haven't got (received) it yet, but from https://greyimportspares.com/collections/kawasaki-parts

They have all the gaskets to rebuild an engine, just not as a "pack", so you have to buy them individually. Carb kit from Blair.

Clean it up and sell it quick before that starter sh*ts itself (a known problem with 1100 Virago's).

You know how cops will sit on your arse waiting for some reason to pull you over and give you a ticket? That used to drive me nuts so I used to pull over immediately and march up to their door with license and reg in hand and ask them what they want.
