New brake pads! I'll get the caliper seals tonight, and soon I will have functioning brakes! Hopefully.

Sorry, but I find it strange that people will go cheap on such an important item like brakes.
I would be fitting the best quality pads, lines and disc’s I could get my hands on.
Those are the sort of things that can make the difference between life and the other alternative.

Well, it couldn't be worse than what I have now, I have one out of 4 cylinders working in the calipers, so a failure or 2 would have me much as I am. :-D
I figure the quality difference would be more the feel and wear (pad and rotor) rather than actually failing. But you're right, things like brakes, tyres, steering bearings and suspension shouldn't be cheaped on. Someone sell me a helmet said he'd get people in who spend a grand on leathers but would only want to buy the $100 helmet - is nothing in you head worth protecting? !

Clearly not, if they are cheaping out on helmets... lol... I see some of those people... fully sick sports bikes, matching brand new leathers, but can't ride to save their lives... all the gear and no idea lmao

I buy cheap helmets. I make sure they are standards-approved though!

But do you buy expensive leathers, too? My daily use helmet is cheap, crash tested and, shall we say, not saleable...
My good helmet cost me $350

I buy cheapish safety gear too.

I'm on a budget, as one income only goes so far for a family of 3.5, multiple project bikes and a woodworking hobby.

That's okay they are still part of the bike community and good on them for at least having the gear so when the inevitable happens. Everyone has their own limit. I grew up on dirt bikes, thrashing them to death and crashing them. I can't imagine starting out on today's sportsbikes. Damn good idea having the LAMS, which I seem to recall was introduced after the MRA pushed for it. No matter how fast you are there is always someone faster. I used to think I was fast until Mick Doohan went around the outside of me at Surfers. Did you read the report from Team Tiger where Troy Bayliss showed up in one of their races went from 36th to the front in 2 laps and sliced 2 seconds off Simon's long standing lap record. 2 seconds!

Not too much happening my way at the moment but a few items for the engine arrived from Japan

OEM Oil Pump gears ( uprated SRX250 3WP items)

A couple of machine screws that hold a bearing retainer inside the crankcase that had been butchered by a PO and needed to be drilled out

A few more parts arrived today.
I do like getting OEM items. Original Yamaha parts and guess what? Some were made in Japan, some in China and one seal in India lol

I bought a spare engine for the CB400F last Sunday from A FB Marketplace Group.
The only problem was it was in Geelong but thankfully the seller was really good in terms of packing it in a crate he had made and taking it to a freight depot.
I booked it onto E-Go for a grand total of $79 and it was to be shipped on Thursday with a 4 to 5 day transit time.
It arrived today, so overnight, in good condition.
I have to say E-Go are so easy to use and it was a super price.

It came complete with carbi stack and kick start lever.
Using the kick start lever it has plenty of compression when turning over. I might put my borescope down the plug holes over the weekend to see what the bores are like but it looks to be a pretty good buy for $400 all up.
The alloy cases and fins are not oxidized and all the fins are in good condition so I am pretty happy with it.

Some more Tygon fuel hose (¼" ID) and a simple on/off fuel tap for the Flyer but the outlet looks a bit small

I wasnt expecting this delivery today as it was pencilled in for early next week but I am not complaining..

My new 12CFM 3HP Belt driven Compressor with 80 litre tank. The motor is a cast iron 4 pole motor so speed is kept low which in turn keeps noise very low. The 2nd hand one I have is now up for sale as it didnt seem to produce much in the way of volume.. maybe it is worn out. It is still noisy mostly from the compressor side so I think those bearings are shot too.. if I cant sell it I will use the tank as spare capacity.

Now I need to get myself some compressor oil so I can run it in and start using it properly.

Well I have to say that JAP Bike Spares are on the ball with deliveries and their packaging is great too..
My 466 Big Bore kit arrived today and apart from the pistons being tiny.. they look to be extremely well cast and finished.. no sharp edges other than the ring lands and even then they are not Sharp.. just well finished.
These things are 54.5mm in diameter.. how small must the FZR250 pistons be as they would almost be half the displacement.. not knowing the stroke differences of course.
Popped back into its plastic safety and put on the shelf in the Bike garage until I have either finished the SRX or I get fed up with it for a while and start on the CB400...hmm no lets say definitely finish the SRX.
