Hello my name is Vincent,I am new to this forum and a new owner of a 1986 Yamaha FZR 250 with exup.
I am also having trouble getting my bike to start. I turn on ignition and the exup servo does not cycle and the fuel pump no longer makes its usual click sound when the kill switch is set to run.
When start button pushed , the starter spins but bike will not start. I have checked all that has been suggested on this site. I am going to do a compression test . Any other suggestions would be gratefully appreciated . Thank you kindly

Have you checked your fuses ? A compression test is a good idea to know the state of your engine , but if your exup is not cycling and your fuel pump is not priming then I would suggest there is an electrical gremlin you need to find

    Welcome to the forum.
Check the fuse's, and all the connection's in the main harness, you might have a dirty connection

Yea take a good look at all the connections / plugs and wiring for damage , corrosion .... make sure the connectors are plugged in correctly and clean ... spray them with Inox or something similar....... especially on the CDI ..... and check the earth wires are doing their job.

First thought is check the battery. If it's low or flat it will struggle to cycle the exup.

Thank you everyone for the quick response. I did a compression test. All good. I plan to go from front to back and check all grounds and clean all contacts. Found three fuses, all good . Will post if successful.
    Cheers

I checked battery . It’s fully charged. Left it overnight on charger and also used auto battery to back up. Nothing .

Check that you have power at the Exup and the coils. If not then trace back from there.

I checked power to exup servo ,good. Took back of servo off and tested continuity good. But small brass pinion gear does not engage plastic gears when connected to power . Going to take to bench and see what’s up.
I suspect the exup servo was toast before I bought it. Coils are good
Ordered CDI from England and found exup servo in Australia. Looks like next spring to hit the twisties
    Thanks everyone

Your FZR250 must be an 88 model then if it has EXUP
What make's you think the TCI is faulty ?

    Hello
The Fzr 250 is registered as a 1986. I am just assuming that the cdi is at fault since the exup servo is not working and no spark . Just finished checking coils. Good

Yes it’s the 2kR. It was imported to Canada from japan by original owner.
Was running great with no issues until a day ago when it would not start. Have gas tank off now and checking fuel pump, filter and all wiring that was under gas tank. Stumped

Unless I am mistaken it is a 3HX1.

Double check the year/model against this chart below, the last 6 digit's will tell you for sure
The steel framed bike's are usually still referred to as a 2KR even if it's a 3HX

Have you checked if there is 12v to one side of the coil's when the ignition is tuned on, (key and killswitch), and the side stand up, in neutral

Hi this sticker is on the frame.

Wish it was , there seems to be more parts available for later Fzr vs the early bikes.

Looks like this to me. Maybe I missed something.
    Yamaha_FZR250_3HX1_White_Small.jpg
and the 3HX is not a 3LN series. It is a 2KR with Exup

thats my bike, the sticker on frame in Japanese with 2kR
That’s good information regarding the 3HX, especially when looking for parts . I have a manual but it’s in Japanese unfortunately
