Hey all, new member here from Victoria, Australia. Just picked up this FZR250 today.

It's disassembled, has a cruddy "paint job", missing some parts. You know, the 'perfect project'. Needless to say I'm optimistic that I can turn it into something I'm proud to own and ride.
The guy I got it off planned on doing a streetfighter build but the frame hasn't been altered yet, so I'm thinking it'd be more worthwhile to restore it instead.

    Welcome.
As many have found before you that a bike restored to original specs is far more valuable than a cut up mongrel that only (sometimes) the owner loves. Keep it stock and it will be easier to live with and will be much more enjoyable to ride.

I totally agree what Murdo has said.Don't butcher it , bring it back to life per factory look. Your bike though.

Welcome. Find out exactly which model it is first.
There is a thread on this forum that will help you identify it, and if you go to my web page and click in the picture you can see all the different versions of the 2KR and 3HX. If your gold wheels are original then it should be a black & gold 2KR or the black and silver 3HX1. What on earth are those forks doing?

The bolts that keep the forks in position aren't currently in the bike, so they're lose and not rotated correctly.

Before the original owner did a terrible paint job on the bike, the wheels were gold. I haven't actually decoded the vin yet, it's from 89' but it is the black bike with the gold rims and calipers.. I literally got the bike yesterday ahaha.

If anyone can point me in the direction of assembly diagrams and such, I'd greatly appreciate it, as the bike was disassembled when I got it I'm not sure exactly how each piece fits together. I am working it out, but it'd be a lot easier with references.

I thought about it for a while and I've decided that I'd prefer to own a restored, classic Japanese sports bike rather than a cut up mess that I'd be ashamed to ride

So first things first, I gotta clean the wheels up and get the original paint code for them, get them powder coated professionally is the plan!

Forget the VIN it is useless. Just look up the identifying your FZR250 thread on this forum. You need the engine number and the frame number.

    This is what I've found:

Engine number(I believe, it was printed behind the clutch lever) -1hx172977

    frame number - 2kr172977

So it's safe to assume that it's an 89' 2kr?

Is there anywhere I can find blown diagrams of general parts. I'm working with a mostly disassembled bike, so I need to know where everything goes, like the fuel pump, battery, cables etc. Reservoir. I have no idea where it all goes and I've googled repair manuals on Google but all the websites I've found are dodgy as hell.

Besides the main parts of the frame, the motor, the wheels, and suspension, everything has been taken off. I can make out where the airbox, fuel tank, fairings etc go but nothing specific.

I got the manuals, The drawings should be enough for me to go off.
I'll draw up some general schematics, and some blown one's with all the plumbing, cables lines and parts/where everything is mounted in english when I get time, and add it to the resources section for future users to . (Nothing too specific, just where everything goes)

Only just arrived here myself but not one to be standin in the shadows I bid you Welcome Darren ;) Don't streetfighter it everybody and his dog does that and I think in some instances it really doesn't do em any favours, as has been said go the extra mile and put her back to standard she'll look great you'll enjoy riding her and done right she'll be worth all the money should you ever come to sell her, good luck buddy ;)
