Just wondering if anybody knows of a big bore kit or replacement cylinders to get more capicity and grunt from a 250 Virago. Great bike but lacking in go.
Hi Betsy, I never found any information about increasing the capacity of the Virago. I asked this question on a few forums around the world and got no answers. Found new cylinders on Evilbay, but at stock capacity. Have now moved on the Virago. Nice bike, good engine but a bit lacking in 'puff'.
Hey Murdo, Thanks for the feedback. Yeah figured that would be case. Guess you cant have your cake and eat it too huh, cruisers are made for cruising and sports are made for speed. Because Im only new on two wheels, safest bet for me was the cruiser, Im still happy with the choice . Out of curiosity, what bike you end up moving onto? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Virago was bought for my partner to learn on. It was a non runner as the rubber carb inlet manifold had split (common problem) and needed a bit of paint, tyres, etc. She had problems with the manual gears and I was worried she would get run over while sitting at a corner trying to get the gears worked out. I sold the Virago and bought a full automatic CF Moto V5 250cc which she has taken to like a duck to water. Virago when I brought it home. Virago when painted and registered. CF Moto V5 replacement.
Speaking of that, there was a 535 Virago on gumtree just up the road from me week before last for $600. It had been sitting for a couple of year's and needed a little work, wasn't running but was cheap enough I was too slow getting onto him to buy it.
I was thinking mainly of rego etc cost's as in 250cc rego. Has rego costs changed though. It's been a very log time since iv'e registered a 250.
Hi Murdo,Sorry for the very late reply. Wasn't aware of the difference from the 750cc up rego costs.I just paid what was listed on my old rego papers. It's been over twenty odd years since iv'e even registered a 250cc bike.
It has been my experience that "anything" will fit into anything with enough work and modifications....The 535 engine is a different design engine and mounting arrangement (stressed chassis component) - more similar to a 750/920 and having a different "V" angle. My opinion is that it is not worth attempting as the work and modification required will be a great amount. I too am looking for a more power list of upgrades for a 250cc engine myself.
