I had a chat with the guy who is doing my crank and rebore and his take is not to weld it .

Thanks @Wozza for the tip on the barrel , this guy had it on eBay with free shipping, I contacted him on gumtree and he agreed to do that price shipped, so I bought it

Nice find if a little pricey. Well you can always have a crack at brazing (not welding) the cracked one now. Any welding specialist worth their salt can do that.

You have to spend a lot of $$ but they can go like stink :) Also you do tend to have run them on and the raggedy edge which means piston and barrel changes 1/2 way through the session :D....
This guy is doing some interesting stuff with 50cc 2 strokes he's getting close to 30hp....I like his videos and he is always having fun, even when it go's bang :)

Bimota, I didn't know that. Note the swingarm pivot is on the same axis as the countershaft, so the chain tension does not change.

An aircooled engine is not going to produce the same BHP as the water cooled version. This is my Bob Farnham stage 3 bike using Lectron carbs.

Nice bike Tigger. They are 35mm Marzocchi on the front with what look like 05 or maybe even 04 Brembos? Alloy rims, rear is a WM4?

Joined this group today seeking some help, alas the barrel I bought is not correct for a 74 model, turns out Suzuki introduced some changes in 1973 which removed the carbs off the barrel and installed some intake tubes, they also changed the inlet porting, so I am back to the drawing board so to speak. The parts book I had, showed 2 different part numbers for the cylinders , the first was used in the original cobra, then a different part number was used on all later models, my parts book only went to 1973, but all the online listings showed barrels were used from 1970-1975, hence why I thought the 72 one would be fine. You can’t trust everything you read on the internet.

There are a couple of sets of barrels off 74 and 75 models on eBay in the us but the freight and gst costs make it prohibitive. I posted up a pic of my cracked cylinder on this group and there was a lot of comments from people about cutting the lower part of the cylinder off to improve performance , see attached pics of others who have cut them. I have chatted with Chris from Netbikes as he is a Suzuki 2 stroke guru and is not a big fan of cutting them.
Not sure what to do here, I want it to be reliable.
