    Howdy.

I'm planning to return back home for a few weeks, and was planning to get my ZXR250 running and road worthy so the rego doesn't lapse. It will be 9 months since I haven't ridden it so without doubt a change of oil, oil & air filter, coolant as well as spark plugs will be changed. My battery had charging issues (sigh, the life of owning a ZXR250A) which I think, will be sorted once the stator, RR and battery are replaced. The fuel tank is currently detached from the bike and filled with fuel.

Considering this is my first time doing a "revive" in so along, I have a few questions.

    1. Can I use a mix of ZXR250 A1 and A2 parts?

    2. Anything else I should look into renewing? I was thinking chain and brake fluid but I did want to keep it to a minimal due to the fact that I will only be home for a short period and will be returning back overseas for another 12 months.

    3. I did put the rear up on a stand, and asked my parents to remove it and roll it occasionally to prevent flat spots occurring on the front tyre, however them not knowing how to put it back on the stand, I'm assuming there'll be flat spots on the rear too. Dumb question but how okay is it to ride in this condition? It will be used for town based straight riding mainly.

Apologize in advance if these are n00b questions but any help would be appreciated...I miss riding a lot and would love to get back on the ZXR even though my stay with it is only temporary atm.

    Thanks

very likely the carbs will need a clean and/or rebuild from sitting . A1 and A2 are pretty similar apart from the swing arm and a few other small things

Thanks for your quick reply. I'll definitely look into getting that sorted.

Tyres should be ok if they wernt old to start with .... look very closely for cracking/crazing and check the manufacture date on the sidewall

    Carb kits available here

    https://litetek.co/Carb_Kit_Kawasaki_ZXR250.html

And needles and seats here ... tips on the needles go hard and wont seal

    https://www.motorcyclespareswarehouse.com.au/products/khv-24l24-float-valve-needle-and-seat

Sprockets and chain should be replaced together

    http://www.rpmmoto.com.au/Store.asp...acturer=0&make=Kawasaki&model=ZXR250&year=all

Have a look at the brake pads also .... fluid should be changed about every 2 years

    Hi GreyImport,

Your advice and information is greatly appreciated. I'll check out the tyres once I am back. Hopefully the carbs are okay...I'm mainly doing this revive to avoid registration running out (in New Zealand you can put plates on hold for up to 12 months only, and it needs a road worthy again)
Will definitely look into replacing the chain and sprocket.

    Many Thanks

If you do decide to work on the carbs, some brake cleaner and steel wool should do the trick! Setting the float heights can be a bit more tricky, although I think I found a video on youtube to help out. I wouldn't worry about carb kits most probably it'll just need a clean(although as greyimport, said the needles can wear)! As for a chain and sprocket Id recommend the Supersprox sprocket and EK chain I think for 150 on ebay... well thats what I'm looking at getting! But good luck in the maintenance hopefully you get some good riding in!

Update guys! Got my bike back, its in good nick, all electrics now working which is awesome. I did notice that the brakes aren't grabbing well. I was wondering if anyone in Auckland has a spare ZXR250 front caliper and some brake lines! Thanks in advance

Have you replaced the brake fluid yet? I'd be doing that first, followed by a set of new pads. If you still have problems after that, I'd then be looking at the lines and master cylinder for problems.

Yep new fluid after cleaning any grunge out of the master reservoir, bleed out the air properly , new pads and clean/deglaze the discs with a wet steely soap pad before the new pads go in ... bed the new pads in correctly

Hey guys, thanks for the quick responses!

The brake fluid has been flushed, however I've noticed a leak coming from the reservoir (which i plan om replacing), the lines do look a bit meh. I'm not too sure what pads are on the bike currently. I think they might be OEM. Any recommendations on some good brands? I might source them from a local dealer.

Thanks again, i'm so glad to be riding again! Missed the 4 cylinder sound.

Whatever you do. Do not get sintered pads . Horrible for street use
