    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, recently purchased a 1992 Kawasaki balius.

When I first got the bike, it was running and looked great. but soon after, it would refuse to start.

    work I've done so far:

    - New Battery
    - New spark plugs
    - Front forks (just did them so they're done)
    - New carburettor rubber holders
    - Fresh fuel
    - New fuel filter and pipe

Now it is starting with the choke and in neutral, but I have to keep the choke going for 30 seconds and soon as I let go, the engine cuts out. I have had to adjust the idle screw up pretty high, just to keep the engine running. some times when I open the throttle, the engine dies as well.

it starts on the button fine, just idles high, and riding down the road its not as powerful as it was at first, it judders slightly as though the fuel tap is off but its on.
The engine itself sounds like one of the cylinders might not be firing correctly, but after weeks of working on it I've decided to put it out there see if anyone else has any advice.

anything at all would be greatly appreciated guys :)

    :welcome:

I'd be checking the vacuum fuel tap. Disconnect the fuel line from the carbs and turn the engine over.

If you suspect it's not firing all four, check the temp of the header pipes with an infrared thermometer. If you don't have one then the caveman way is to spray some water on the header pipes and see if they're hot or cold, or wave your hand over to feel any heat (or lack of) radiating.

Not sure of the Balius is similar, but on my ZXR, if the fuel line was not properly routed, it would kink and starve for fuel. Especially with an inline filter added.

    Hey Luke

Is it running on all 4 ? Sounds like you might be running on 3 , pop the spark caps off the plugs then use a spare plug to test for spark , by grounding the plug on the engine

    Thanks man,

I’ll check the vacuum this evening, yeah the fuel line is the same I added a new inline filter might shorten the pipe a bit just to make sure there’s no kinks

I’ll give that a go too, thanks man

I just put them back on the way they were, I’ll confirm the order of them just Incase the way they were before was wrong

    Thank you
