hey guys, pretty new around here but just gonna start a thread for some issues I’m having and trying to see if people have some advice

So I picked a 250s up fairly cheap off gumtree was told it had the usual issues of a motorbike that hasn’t been looked after etc dirty carby, bad fuel and so on

Was told it will idle al day fine and free rev but once it was riding under load it would spit and splutter and eventually cut out, so initially I thought it was the carby so I pulled it apart cleaned it put it back together, then pulled the fuel tank tap off and then found out the tank was full of dirt, rust and all other sort of contaminants that definitely shouldn’t be in a fuel tank.
So I was starting to think that may be the issue?

That the fuel tap being blocked wouldn’t allow enough fuel to be fed into the carby to allow it to accelerate properly? And that on idle it would allow enough fuel through to idle fine.

    Any opinions would be great!!

Ps did an acid clean on the tank had a mind blank left the fuel tap on and now it’s liquid... so if anyone knows the specs for the fuel tap that would be mint

    Welcome Kieren.
Your guess about the blocked fuel tap would be correct.
Can you fit a fuel tap from another bike if you cannot get the genuine one.

block off the vacuum line and buy a cheap on off fuel tap that fits a pit bike. will get the verniers out later today.

the original vacuum one gave trouble so that was the importers solution

Those 50cc fuel tap's have an inside diameter around 3mm.
There are pit bike fuel tap's up to 5mm inside diameter

Post a picture of your tap and where it fit's to the tank, thread size and or bolt pattern too

the thread od is 16mm measured across the width of the thread and is metric.that should give you a guide and yes your picture is what was used to replace the original vacuum type.

So 16mm is the size we’re going with?

go down to your local shop and see if they have either in stock and take 16 mm home and try it. if sloppy return and get 15mm. i donot have a 3rd set of calipers and lost the battery cover finding these out.
