I picked up some okd suzuki 2 stokes today and I spotted a 1974 ts185 in the shed , I asked if it was for sale and he said it was locked up and would be off to the dump. It ended up in the van, I have decided it is going to be our shop project when things are quiet.

I did try the kick start and she popped free

I thought the carb might need a tickle , oh was I right , I know I rabbit in about threebond , but the proof is in the pudding

Carb back with some premix and she fired up and revved quite nicely.

Will need to track down lots of bits , looks like a fun project to fix up and ride

I have seen thinner diff oil than that... well done. Threebond is a little miracle in a can :)

Sweet bikes these old school 2 strokes. They actually haul some serious ass when they get going. Looks like a winner to me. Great score man.

Nice pick up. That looks like a Bassani Power pipe, would be worth a few bills to somebody riding one of those in classic enduro.

Cut and weld the pipe. Or just ride it like do with mine - I can see daylight through mine...while it's still on the bike!

We made a start on stripling the bike today , engine is out and the piston is oem and most like the original one when it was made in 1974 . I had a mate who is a ex Suzuki mechanic drop in this afternoon to give me some parts for blasting and he said the big end and rod are fine , he suggested a hone and new rings and she should happily smoke for another 20 years.

I did wet blast a side cover then hit it with polish, there lots of gouges in the alloy but we are not going for Concorse, just clean it up and have some fun on it.

I have been having God’s all trouble finding some replacement fork tubes, if anyone sees any 1973-75 ts185 , tc185 , ts125 or tc125 33mm fork tubes or complete forks , please let me know as mine are rusted out. I did find a seat in Adelaide , will hopefully be here next week.

Next steps are to strip and paint the frame and clean up all the alloy parts.

Check out the old school clutch pins , I have never seen one like that before.

    Left hand 51140-36010
    Right hand 51130-36010

All show NLA from Suzuki, I am doing this a budget build , I just wanted to find a cheap pair of second hand ones, Mine are rusted and bent so the costs to fix them from Rad would be most of the budget allocated to fixing it up.

I did find a set in maitland, but we wnats $350 plus post, i may use that as a last resort.

I'll try the place out north that bought all that nos Suzuki gear last year and see what they have.
Let me know if there's any other old Suzuki stuff you need, part number's needed as some stuff is in box's and or wrapped up
They're pretty cheap, i reckon a pair of fork legs would be under $100 the pair

Did you get a quote from RAD? My mechanic said it was $220 last time he got a set straightened and rechromed. Of course, if the nos is available cheap enough, then that would be the go.

Cleaned up more parts today , also sent a big list of parts to Springwood Suzuki for pricing , crank seals , bearings , brake cables , Clutch cables , piston kit etc , if we are going to do this then it is better off to be done right.

Phil stripped the pet cock and it has cleaned up really well.

Bit more work on the mighty ts over the past few days , the frame , air box , triple trees, brake bar and a few brackets were stripped and painted, as this is a budget build , I chanced my arm on some paint from America called Rust-oleum , it goes on very easy and looks trick

    B550426F-EBD4-4D23-9660-4A85BCCC549F.jpeg

    C8A767D2-0FFC-4832-9474-F64F49F28724.jpeg
I have pulled the engine down and have started cleaning up the cases in the blasting machine , I have created a list of spares that I need from Suzuki , nearly all of which are available which is great.

I will try and get her back to a roller using my old forks until I find some replacements. I will have to buy some tapered headstem bearings , the original bearings were still in there and probably should have been replaced 20 years ago.

    C25C5DA5-090B-488D-B182-4084F96FF258.jpeg

The coil from the bike had 2 different colour wires on the coil lead , I removed the tape and found some bush mechanics had been hard at work. I checked my spares box and I have a coil from a 1983 ts185, it is the same so that is now fitted to the frame.

    Budget update
    Rust-oleum paint $26
    Exhaust paint - $22
    Keyster carbs kit - $25

    Total $73
