After scanning through the topics and finding very little on track days (lots on drags) I thought it was time to start a thread on this topic.

Well thats because here in country NSW theres a grand total of zero tracks .... but a few drag meets within a reasonable distance ... and the closet thing here (north-west) to a 'track day' is the North Coast Road Racers that use go kart tracks

I was up at Broadford (Victoria) yesterday (19/5/19) on my little CBR250RR.
    A Motorcycle Victoria test day.
The weather was fantastic. No sign of rain and mild temperatures most of the day.
The daily proceedings were broken down into multiple runs of 3 separate (self nominated) groups of participants [slow, medium & fast]. With the medium group having the lions share of riders.
I elected to go in the slow group.
There was a fairly strong contingent of smaller bikes on track. I counted about 6 x CBR250RRs, a few Yamaha 4s, a number of small oil burners + various other smaller bikes.
The day flowed extremely well with us all ending up with a good 6 sessions (6 x 15+ mins) during the course of the day.

There is a real sense of achievement when you finally hunt down and overtake some of the larger and/or more modern bikes (the slower 600s & 750s), even though I am relatively unskilled on my little bike at this stage.

On the little bikes it is all about trying to maintain momentum. Easier said than done.
The better riders on the other CBR250RRs, would overtake me coming onto the front straight like I was standing still. They were able to carry plenty of pace through that final turn and slingshot past me. I guess it is all about corner speed on these little things as there didn't seem to be a huge difference in straight line pace between the other CBR250RRs that I was running with.

    More practice required.

Something to concentrate on next time.

    A great day.

Later in the year I will get out on my Honda RC tribute bike.

P.S. Has anyone ridden the Bend yet? A group of friends are talking about a trip to the bend later in the year to check it out.

    Peter.

I have been advised that the Murray Valley circuit in Albury (at the Tafe centre) is a great little circuit for smaller bikes.
I have some friends who have done car events there are rave about it. It is apparently quite challenging.

For those unfamiliar, here is a link to the circuit at Broadford.

A great technical little road track. Lots of other motorcycle competition disciplines also available at the complex.

While at Broaford, I took the opportunity to put my bike on the scales in the scrutineering area.:mad::mad:
    Wow! Was I disappointed.
I stripped most of the extra bits off my bike to lighten it.
I think I have removed about 10 kgs of bits that are not needed.
With 1/2 - 3/4 tank of fuel, my MC22 weighed in at 151kg. Ouch.
In comparison, my son's Daytona 675 track bike came in at 165kg (empty fuel tank).
So without fuel, my bike is probably around 145kg.
In my leathers I was 84kg.
So I guess I need to loose some weight somewhere.

Hopefully my RC tribute bike will be more like 120kg. :):):)

The engine and gearbox assembly (with carbs) is only 45kg. So where is the rest of all that weight????

You do understand that Albury is only about 1,000Km/two days drive from here?
Be good when some more tracks get going closer to home, but we may be too old to ride by then. :p
Keep up the track day reports as doing a day is something that a lot of us want/need to do. :thumb_ups:

    Ahh. Tamworth!!!
Sorry, I didn't check. That does make it a bit harder.

Hopefully the Black Rock motorsports park will be built within the near future (Wakefield, NSW), which is a more reasonable distance for you.

    Peter.

It's only about 400km to Warwick or Sydney. I'm nearly double that to get to a track bigger than a go-kart track. Rocky is hunting for V8 Supercar round, but are going to put the track next to the racecourse stables and around the sports fields, meaning it will only get used once a year, just like Townsville. Boo! Make a real track we can use!!! Rant over.

I'm looking to go for a blat at Warwick track day October 5th. It is expensive, though.

@ShaneP do the racecourse stables house horses all year round? The Sandown race course is built around a horse track with stables. Gets used much more than once per year. It is a purpose built track, not multi-purpose roads.

Most year round, I believe. And there are stables in the neighbourhood. They'll be moving the horses out for weekend. If it even happens.
