Help FZR250 - coolant leak in hardline behind block/head

    Nah it deffo had the other gasket in it. FFS unless some other "clown" like me has changed it at some stage.... Is that one pictured not bigger in diameter than the ones I have in it now? Would that physically fit in mine?

    Its got brand new jets throughout it. I shined light through most of the holes to check the carb body was as clear as I could get it I thought it was pretty good. New boots between carb and engine. The only difference is the stainless collars I put in the airbox which could remove tomorrow just to see if it helps as the boots have likely stretched back out by now anyway. The only other thing I can think of is how picky is the airbox to holes or leaks around the seal of the airfilter? The strip that goes around the airfilter has shrunk and will be letting air in ther and the airbox lid has a gap in it where the two U hoses attach to the back of it. The airfilter is old to.

    Try setting your float's a touch lower.

    Those ring's in your airbox boot's could also be causing the rich idle ?
    But you wont know unless you get some brand new boot's

    Im loathe to buy boots that shrink anyway overtime.

    I will pull the stainless out tomorrow and I bet they stay pretty much where they are for long enough to test it.

    Yep modifying the setting on the floats I did.... Did seem to leave alot of movement in the float. Maybe I should get some hose and check the actual fuel level when they are in the bike so I know for sure.

    The float height / fuel level's have a lot to do with the throttle response, as do the mixture screw's

    My new airbox to carby boot's i bought 18 month's ago still feel soft like they were when new

    Yep I sort of had a feeling that where I set the floats seemed a touch high. My gut feeling was the stainless tab that you bend should sit pretty much flat when you eyeball down through the side of each float. Whereas mine were just a hair up above that.

    No, they are the same diameter.

    I am sure you have the wrong gasket. Look at the fuel tap in the picture above that uses that '2 eyes and a mouth' gasket, it is nothing like yours. Yours has the 4 hole profile. This is why you also have the fat o-ring for that fuel tap. Some dork has put the wrong gasket in there.

    I found the best way to adjust the float tab's was with a needle through the hole in the tab, that way it can easily be bent and still sit square to the float

    Well that explains the fuel tap. I obviously was not paying much attention there.

    Edit nope I was wrong again:

    The fuel level is probably 20+mm above the float bowl line so yeah. What was happening to me the first time I tried it was when I pushed the clear hoses to much towards the float bowl they would get a kink at the bottom and leak down to pretty much bang on what its supposed to be. So I thought it was good. When I tried it again they look clearly well above the bend in the float bowls (when im not bending the tube over as much) which is about where the 10.5 to 11.5 range is for these carbs. So im thinking these are set at about 20mm above the line.

    So does that mean I need to measure more or less when I take them out of the bike? I need less fuel in the fuel bowl so to me that means higher on the measurement on the floats?? I already thought I was a bit high.

    yep.
    To lower the fuel level, you need to set a higher level float height.

    Ok got them back out now.
    Two floats on one side measure 14.7mm and the two on the other side measure 13.9 and 14.2 respectively. I only measured three of the carbs with the fuel in tube method and they were all a fair bit above the 10.5mm mark I put on the carb float body.

    Im thinking I will try 15mm.

    Can having two out like that effect the rest?

    The pilot screws were setup right.
    Im pretty sure the pilot jets and that are in the correct position aswell I was very careful to sort the bags and check the numbers to the chart as I put them in.

    @my67xr : That tip of using a needle was awesome bro! That deff makes it easier to fine adjust them while they are all together in the float body.

    I have set them to 14.8mm

    Yep so thats correct as per the pic. 97.5 mains on the left, 10 bleed pilot in the deep hole on the right and 42.5 starter jet in the upper hole. This was a pic of one of the middle carbs.

    So that all checks out.

    The float tang has to be just touching the needle tip not compressing it.

    When I lift the float off the needle the needle spring tip does not move. When I gently push it down it pops back to the same place everytime. Everything is new so this should not be an issue? I noticed on the old needles the spring was certainly softer and had a less positive action to it when you push the floats down. These look fine to me.
