I have a question guys . what mileage have you guys gotten from your zxr 250 before it craps itself? . also has anyone tried to use C rings in an A engine by filing them down the extra millimetre? . i am in the process of installing my ahl rings in the coming days
Don't care how good you are with a file but you would never be able to get then to seal properly and possible cause a lot of damage to the bores. The AHL ring will be fine if you go careful when fitting them.
I'm pretty sure that's not how rings work. Stick with the right (48mm) rings. Even if they aren't Japanese, they're still your best bet as Murdo said.
I have a number of things I am waiting on for the SRX including the head, some machined parts, seat and the weather to warm up more so I can paint... so once I have the wheels on it will come off the stand and the CB400 will go up... not for a restoration though... I have been looking for a bike to use when I get my Learners (should never have let the bike license lapse) and after having a real good look at the 400 I think I can clean her up well enough to get her running and on Historic rego. It will be a good bike to get back into it with.. so look out for some progress soon on the mighty 1975 CB400F
Agree 100%... every possibility some or all would break on the first heat cycle... and that would really pi$$ you off.
Picked up a pair of 80’s ts185’s , 85 and 89 , the 89 is going to my son so he can learn how to fix it up Poured some fresh fuel in and she started straight up
You'd have to take over 3mm off for circumference with 1mm bore. For a slow-running, low-power motor of large enough bore, you could do it at a pinch, but this is none of those. Take it out to 49mm (can you swap barrels and pistons for a C model?), Or find other 48mm piston rings to fit if you're really worried about the AHL rings.
I have been looking around for decent Inner Tubes for the CB400F and they are a difficult size to find. Tyres are set as 90/90-18 Front and 100/90-18 Rear will do nicely.. now just to find the inner tubes and rim tape. I was going to use Avon tyres but the Pirelli City Demons look to be a good match....
I like the Avon road runners I have on my 500. They work good wet or dry and have good feed back to the rider.
Been checking over my son's latest acquisition, a SWM Gran Turismo 440. 10 months old, 8,000Km and been looked after very well. Is a cracking little bike to ride, great brakes, good suspension and holds a line in corners really well, torquey engine and great on fuel.
Unfortunately you can't swap cylinder as far as I am aware as the strokes are different . Thanks for the input about the piston rings too I'm still learning about all this Sent from my Redmi 5 Plus using Tapatalk
@Frankster @Murdo thanks again guys for the help I appreciate it Sent from my Redmi 5 Plus using Tapatalk
Actually, you can... If you find a good set of ZXR250C Barrels and Pistons, you can transplant them onto a ZXR250A engine. No other changes required. A few racers do this as it gives them a slightly larger capacity (about 260cc I think). It's basically the same as boring the ZXR250A engine out as you keep the ZXR250A stroke, but increase the bore from 48 to 49mm. I've been meaning to do this for a while, but haven't got around to it.
Why do people cut wires ? Every connector has been cut off and just twisted and taped on this ts185. I spent hours slowing fixing it, just need to find some more period connectors so I can do it properly. Might be easier to buy a used one It is a wonder how it ever ran I thought I’d use the spare ts-185 bike for the harness but it is the same if not worse Fitted a spare oil pump and plumbed it up so the oil injection will work again. Replaced the bent handle bars as well. Hopefully the lad appreciates it
Because they are there. Because they are master craftsman. Because the tail light globe has burnt out. I guess those would be the 3 main reasons.
Changed the engine oil and the pattern filter changed for Honda one, not impressed that the filter spring was missing, luckily I'd ordered a new one with the filter from Dave Silver. Easy job compared to changing the bloody spark plugs....made easier with a hinged socket borrowed from the bike shop, not made easier my lack of paddock stands. Brake fluid to change next and then carb balance when I get my new fuel line delivered
well, all i can say is that after parting with the money i had to let the hems on my jeans down.lol. had to buy a headlight rim and david silver did not have.could have had mine panel beated and brazed but would have cost same or more.david silver spares order arrived today and there was a lot of cardboard packing in a grand box.
Try to help out with another XL250s (just because I fixed mine everybody thinks I know all about them) and kickstart would not return when kicking engine over. Drained the oil and had lumps coming out. Sidecover off and clutch out, but the problem is internal in the gear case. Engine out after removing dodgy bolts, the rest were finger tight. Off with the top end and split the cases. Spring for kickstart shaft assembled wrong, so easy fix. Whilst washing the cases I found this. This is the bottom side of the locating pit for the second gear shaft bearing. This pin should stick up about 2mm, but the PO had not got it lined up with the hole in bearing and either big hit with hammer or just kept tightening the bolts until it broke the pin through the case. I used some Devcon epoxy to hold the pin and fill the hole. Lots of sludge in the bottom of sump. Now who would put a new O ring chain around this sprocket? There are just so many small things wrong with this poor bike that it will take me a long while to get it into some sort of running shape. Next time I talk to the owner I will ask him if he enjoyed it, as he sure got f*#ked over on this Ebay bargain.
