44448AAF-0B62-4B92-8567-60B1A6FAB4CB.jpeg Now, I buy loads of very neglected bikes , one of which was an old across that hasn’t run in 13 years . The body work is nice albeit dusty , plugs out , she turned over by hand so we did a comp test thinking it would be shagged I was really Surprised with 210,220,220 and 210

Gave the carbs a clean , nearly started , swapped the plugs and she fired up , smoke everywhere

how cool is this , she is alive

The Problem is 13 years of sitting means that in order to save it ,I have to replace the fork tubes, replace the front caliper, kit front and rear brake cylinders, new tyres , fresh fluids , new grips , and any other things that need doing , it becomes an expensive rescue and if you include the purchase price and cost of my time , I would end up loosing money.

It is the nature of my industry Shane , but rejoice because my stock of used across parts has just increased 2 fold :)

Wel she is back together , replaced the forks , fitted some spare tyres that I had , carbs have been stripped and cleaned and reassembled , fresh oil , fresh coolant, replaced front brake caliper and fresh brake fluid front and rear

I just took it on it’s first ride in 13 years , she ran like a top, I forgot how much fun they are

Nice work! You sorted that one out a hell of a lot faster than I did mine :) Definitely seem to be well built machines though, the amount of sitting they can do without being prepped for it is impressive.

Great to see it'll stay in once piece. What year is it? Club rego worthy? I can see it's got the redesigned rear light, so one of the later ones.

If I had space under the carport I'd be all over that. I miss my little across.

CFC2A016-334B-4635-B50E-5C8A8800BD65.jpeg The across is being a pain in the arse , it won’t start with jamming a rag into the airbox and blocking off the air box intake.

When we did get it started, the choke wasn't wokring, ie the revs would not rise up to 4000prm as it should, it would briefly jump then drop.

We pulled a spare set of carbs down and mapped out how the choke works , turns out there is a one way valve (ball bearing) in the float bowl that stops fuel coming back down from the choke circuit , we used some threebond and compressed air (numerous times) and we freed up the bearing. We just refitted the carbs, full choke and she fired up at 4000rpm, lower it off and it dropped to 1400, engaged the choke and it jumped back up to 4000 rpm

Lots of high fives in the shop

Tomorrow will be the true test , hopefully it will start from sitting overnight

Great work Kiffsta. I will post this as a tip on my web page for the Across, if you don't mind.

Mate , yep early ones were 45hp , the steel frame made them a bit of slug with an extra 20 plus kilos over the sporty inline 4’s

just had a read of the article , could t have written it any better myself.
