It is Double Demerit points currently in NSW... so that would be a normal 3 point indiscretion... no excuses at this time of year.
We get 12 points and you lose them as and when you get pinged. It takes 2 years for those points to get back onto your license and it can affect your insurance as well.
Gaining or losing makes no real difference... especially when it is Double Demerits.

3 years is it, haven’t been booked in over 20 years. I thought it was 2.
What was that, 10kph over the limit but under 20?

Just don't pay the fine and keep driving/riding even if you don't have a licence...seems to work fine for many Victorians!

Nah, in Victoria your publicly funded defense lawyer will plea-bargain you down to 20 hours of community service and when you fail to show for that you'll have a human rights lawyer explain how you've had a hard life and you'll get a standing ovation when the judge lets you walk and wishes you all the best.

I'm guessing 162kph would be instant loss of licence for 3 months and a substantial fine?

What penalties apply for speeding in NSW?
If your vehicle is detected by a fixed speed camera, mobile speed camera or Police Officer and a penalty notice is issued, you will incur a fine and licence demerit points. Learner and P1 licence holders will have their licence suspended for at least 3 months for any speeding offence.

There are licence suspension periods, similar to the minimum disqualification periods applied by a court, for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h (3 months), and by more than 45 km/h (6 months). If police catch you speeding by more than 45km/h over the limit you may have your licence immediately suspended and confiscated at the roadside for 6 months.

Police can also impound or confiscate number plates from a vehicle for a period of 3 months:

    • when a driver is caught exceeding the speed limit by 45km/h; or
    • a disqualified driver is caught exceeding the speed limit by 30km/h.
If a disqualified driver is caught speeding by more than 45km/h over the speed limit, Police can impound or confiscate number plates from a vehicle for a period of 6 months.

Rode from Tamworth to Bellingen on Fri, picked up my daughter and rode back today - the Triumph runs perfect! (That's Miss Linkin on the left).

I think in Qld, more than 45km/h over they take your licence and your vehicle, and maybe crush the vehicle - there were threats, at least. They also threatened $1000+ fines for mobile phones while driving. Unless you cry to judge, then you get let this one time.... Each time...

Here is one for the record books I think... although.. in Katoomba that would be normal practice...
    Taken from Nine News.

A woman has racked up an astonishing 34 demerit points in a single incident while driving in Sydney's Blue Mountains.
The woman was driving through Katoomba yesterday around 2pm when NSW Police officers on motorcycles noticed she was using her mobile phone when negotiating a roundabout.
After pulling her over, officers attached to the Motorcycle Response Group allege that none of the woman's passengers including three children and a man were wearing a seatbelt.
