    Hey All,

Been a little while since i've posted anything on here after i finished my GT650P build. I have been plenty busy doing many things in the works. Anyway i sadly moved the VFR800 on, it was just gonna sit there and i found someone who was wrapped to have it, so its moved onto a good home.

I came across this and i simply couldn't say no.
It is a 1988 Yamaha FZR-400. I brought it for a very good price, but in non running condition. Its not perfect, it does have some flaws (not battle scars), but it just adds to its character.
Once i got it home, i've done all my usual checks, oil, coolant, carbs, air filter and its spotless. The carbs were clean as if they were just done, oil is so clean it hasn't been ran, coolant is perfect green and the air filter is brand spanking new. It must have been serviced before put into storage.

Anyway as i said non runner and the gentleman thought it was start solenoid however it didnt have the usual ticking they do when that happens, just dead. So i took the gamble and what i found is below. Hopefully after a clean it should be an easy fix but never know.

Also i know in the future i need to get some of Maelstrom's goodies, particularly the carb to manifold boots.

    Enjoy.

Very clean indeed! Fingers crossed for an easy fix, ie dirty kill switch/loose ignition wire.

I may have a starter for that model , congrats on the pickup , while the 400’s don’t rev like the 250’s, they are still shed loads of fun and their values are going through the roof

Haven't seen one that bad for a while! Strange for 33,000km? Or quality eco friendly brushes

It most certainly is strange for that many k's, from what i see in the pics it looks like brushes are toast.

I am quite sure that is a 3EN1, so it has its own unique inlet manifold rubbers.
I have parts books for the 1 & 2 at the bottom of the carb page.
    https://litetek.co/Carb_Kit_Yamaha_3EN1.html
also brochure. 3EN1 has that swingarm.

i know the boots on manifolds are the ones that have 2 clamps, one for manifold side, one for carb side.
pretty sure this is exact same. its not like the ones in the 3en2 book on your site.

Please, that would be great. As i know i will need them, I've had the carbs out and i can see the tops of the boots cracking.

I'm pretty flat out this week, but i'll try and free up some time later on in the week or early next week to sort it out with you.

No worries. Be good to see a nice 3EN1 brought back to life.

i dont forsee any major issues with the bike, honestly once i get the carb manifold rubbers, the starter motor sorted, change the brake master on the front, it should start and run, hopefully really well.

i do have gear shaft oil seal to change i know that. but it doesn't look like its had a hard life, no scrapes on the bar ends etc... no dents in the tank cover.

The 1WG manifold rubbers also fit onto the BDST carbs, so it might be exactly as you said. Since you already had the carbs apart just check my web page for the difference between the float bowl seals.

So i've cleaned up the starter and got it working, it will need to be replaced at some point. However now i have issues with starter clutch. So i need to pull that off and check. Just wanting to confirm cause the manual doesn't state, the bolt for the starter clutch is normal thread, not LH thread ??

@2valve here you go. 1WG rubber to BDST. I am not saying that the 1WG alloy manifolds will line up with the 3EN1 or 3TJ head, but you can certainly use the rubbers. In fact I was planning to make 1WG style manifolds to suit my 3TJ1 and use these rubbers rather than the OEM one-piece versions which are no longer available for the 3TJ's.

ahh yeah, well it seems to match as thats what on the bike at the moment and its all bolted up correctly. 100% will be in touch about those.
