Bought this on a whim after it was posted here in the gumtree/ebay thread. Not a lot of GSXR250's around, this one could possibly be an SP model as well going off the fork adjusters, making it even rarer. It should have 32mm mikunis fitted, along with different 1st 2nd 3rd ratios, if it is indeed an SP.

It has a spare set of carbs, hopefully I wont need them but spares are good.

If anyone here has more knowledge on the baby GSXR's please share your knowledge :)

Thanks to @my67xr for going and having a look and taking some pics as well before it gets picked up and transported.

First order of business will be giving it wash... then a peek under the skirts, compression check and valve check if necessary. If all is OK there then a good service and items needed to get it ready for historic rego and off the Gunnedah airstrip.

Looking forward to getting this baby going!

The parts book I have shows all of them having the adjustable forks but I believe SP can adjust damping as well.
SP also has remote reservoir rear shock.
@Simon would know all this stuff.

Certainly needs a bit of love. Is that 'wrecker writing' on the clutch cover?

Good luck with the project mate. Reckon you could end up with something pretty special there.

Could very well be. Motor apparently had a freshen up from the guy before the seller. Time will tell.

Some info on the SP model.

and some info on the GSX-R history..

    includes the 250 as well

    https://www.visordown.com/feature/news/suzukis-gsx-r-full-history

I'm partial to the 84/85 GSX-R400. I owned one back in the day. Picked it up at Action Suzuki in Sydney - loved it, but was stolen one night from my brother's place. Hopefully one day I'll find another one to restore.

I was oh so tempted to enquire about the 250 on Gumtree before posting it. But decided to stick to my guns and wait until I find a 400 instead - I still have lots of fond memories with that bike.

Sorry for the off topic, there was one around Brisbane for a little over a grand that was up for a long time, but here's another.

that is such a cool 250cc it deserves a full resto, so long as you keep the same graphic theme and get the stickers redone it would look great :)

Well if it is a keeper then I concur, but if you are going to sell it then it will be the new owner who will be the winner. Does it run?

Not yet, managed to lose the key (probably locked under the seat! again... don't ask) but the battery is dead. Inside of the tank is clean and rust free, been sitting for 5 years. I'll try and get it going but its likely it will need carbs/plugs/etc done first.

And yes it's a keeper, not many of these around I don't plan on selling it.

I did yes, I prefer the GJ73A because of the alloy frame and sportier looks.

I took the skirts & tank off, cranked it over until oil pressure came, hooked up some remote fuel and got same start ya bastard into it and it fires up but doesn't stay running, carbs blocked up being my guess.

Tank looked ok but once I swished the fuel around I heard lots of chunks floating around, took the tap off and sure enough shitty fuel and rusty water with chunks comes pouring it, will need to de-rust it.

Dumped the oil and coolant, had enough for tonight... I'm glad it runs and doesn't make horrible noises, I'd like to ride it before stripping it down for the resto.

    Notes....

Bike has been lowered at the rear and the forks need attention
Self tappers and A/F bolts/screws are not to be used on metric bikes!
I found $1.50 in change, an AA battery, paperclip, razor blade and chux wipe within the bike
    A million dead spiders
18" rear rim, SP model or not? I don't know. Bitsa most likely
Fairings in decent nick structurally but have some cracks in LH tail, missing locating tabs that hold them into the tank

Going home from work now... videos to follow later.

Today I finished pulling the bodywork off and got the carbs out. Found a nasty casting dag in #2 inlet port, which I promptly managed to break off, luckily the valves were shut. I blew the port out with compressed air but no idea if it came out or is still sitting there, so battery out and not turning it over. Motor will come out and apart to check everything out and a spruce up.

Carbs... these are #3 and #4, not too bad right?

Well, check out #1 and #2...
