Random question.... whats the major difference between the A and C model carbs? and would there be an issue with using the C model carbs on a A model bike?

the difference i can tell is main jets are smaller on the c model and the overflow goes somewhere different. other then that they are the same. So if you put a model jets and overflow to airbox pipe on it is perfectly fine

Huntsman is right. The difference in the carbs is main jets only. The C model engine uses a Vacuum valve in conjunction with smaller jetted carbs. You shouldn't have any issues using the vacuum configuration from the A model with carbs from a C.

So the smaller jets from the C model and the gravity fed A model would mean that there is less fuel.. So it would run lean yes?

Sorry, I meant to write the following...speed typing is not my forte.

"Yes, I believe that's exactly what will happen.

Also, the C engine has a different Bore & Stroke to the A engine, so C carbs are probable jetted to cater for that as well.

I think using A model gravity feed ISN'T a big issue, but you'll want to change the main jets and set everything to factory A model spec (air/fuel turns out, float height etc) and go from there."

We will be doing just that on Saturday mate. Also I don't think it would be that much leaner with the c model jets with the whole rich from the factory jetting to protect the engine philosophy,

image.jpg Just starting to pull my carbs apart. I'm assuming there are supposed to be seals there and all that brown funky crap is bad?

Looks like oil from the blow back so that's ok. Lack of seals is worrying

I've had a brief read through it. I can't see myself getting to far with it tonight as my wife has decided that the coffee table and kitchen bench are not appropriate places to be doing this kind of work :headbang:

It's more the smell that bothers her.l than the "mess"... Looks like I'll be setting up in the garage. Already stripped one of the JIS screws. Can I swap them out for standard Phillips head or even hex screws?

Apologies for bumping this ancient post. But,

It looks very helpful. I'm currently on paid leave for COVID-19 so I finally get a chance to clean my carbies on the ZXR250A. Yes, A model. I am assuming I can follow the guide but look at the A model manual for specifics.

I'm confident I can do this if I take my time with it.
I just had the bike sitting for a while, as I had to figure out why the battery wasn't getting charge, now that's fixed. The bike won't idle very smoothly or at all sometimes. fuel, air filter, oil filter and everything is great, has been checked. Only thing is the carbies that I can think of.

    Thanks!

Take your time. Write down each air/fuel mixture screw setting before you take them out. The chokes on each carb can be a bit fiddly to get out. And if you're not sure, just ask the forum. Syncing the carbs is also a good idea, so get yourself a 4-carb sync tool.

    Thanks Frankster,
I will certainly take my time. I will note what my pilot screws are set to as well.
When you say syncing the carbs, do you mean getting the float levels all about 13mm?
I have access to google so I just need a little bit of help understanding. But no problem.

I will do my best and ask for help when I need it.
    Thanks mate.
