Hey I was looking for a place to post up the rebuild/recondition of my old mans 1967 BMW R69S, all the forum folders are 250/300's and the old girl is a 600cc, soooooo PUB it is!
Its still very early stages, cleaning and trying to get running, its still got compression and the starting system seems good as there is a spark on the plugs (new).
Ive taken the carbies apart and given them a sonic bath (at work) they came up pretty well, and on my way to putting them back together i found one of the throtle cables to be frayed so waiting on new ones before trying to start it.
A new battery, spark plugs, oil, fuel and throttle cables are what ive gotten so far, but in order for her to be looking like the bike in my imagination she still has a ways to go!
Im hoping that someone here also has some contacts with spare parts or knows a little about the old BMW's or just wants to help out!

So here we go on another adventure, this time with a 1967 BMW R69S!

Yea a few dollars invested in that Beemer cafe Id say.

Your Dads bike will look fantastic cleaned up as original .... I like the style of those old BMWs ..... it looks like all the bodywork and the like is there which is real bonus...... looking forward to seeing its progress.

My Dad and Mum used to get around with their friends on a bike with a sidecar ... I cant remember what bike it was though.

When my old man moved out of Nelson Bay around 2000, it was put into storage, mind you he didnt ride it too much after having kids either, but since then its been running once and then it was put back into storage in an old dairy shed. Considering its so close to the coast im pretty impressed with how well its held up to rust...

    well done :thumb_ups:

they are good candidates for metal polish, being fairly simple and round and easy to get at

Hmmm yeah they would look good with a bit of shine to them! The throttle cables from Munich Motorcycles in Sydney arrived last night but with the missus wanting to decorate the house for Xmas (in november?!?) i could not get to them.
Another set back but with the Zed, 2 punctures while riding to work on wednesday :( one a round hole from a screw, the other, 2 shards of flat metal! Just my luck :headbang:
Hopefully i can get a few hours this weekend to work on the girl and get her started, put the vid on youtoob for everyone to see how long it takes! :lolsign:

Been a long time since I got back on here so I thought id give you guys an update!
Since taking her for a ride down the street I got a bit carried away with the cosmetic restoration, sandblasting and etch priming some parts and just generally taking the old girl to bits. Ive only decided last night to stick everything back together regardless of looks and my first port of call will be getting the engine running sweet again, I managed to get an engine seal kit from Munich Motorcycles and am keen to have the guts of the engine looked at by a professional before doing much mor on it, I have a bad habit of taking things apart and leaving them, then not remembering how to put them back together >_<.
So, while Im waiting on the weekend to rock around ill be rebuilding my ZXR520A's carbies and making up a new wiring harness for the BMW.
Ill try and get some picks up for your entertainment soon!
    Fidz.

Good to hear from you, it's been awhile. There is a saying: Rome wasn't built in a day and nor was the BMW
