Ok re filter. Wasn't sure if you aware or not , but was informed by Mr Yamaha to squeeze the new filter before use.
I have a spare jet you can have , I'll take a picture of it to make sure it's the correct. Anything else RS in the carb ?.

Squeeze new filter, I'll be sure to remember that!

Thanks that'd be great! It's part 6 on this diagram:

The rest of the carb seemed ok, float was a bit out of shape but looked to be operational. Needle + seat looked ok too.

Specs for the carby are in the picture below... there is a full service manual in the Resources section.. you can get access by becoming a Premium member ($10 for 2 years access) which helps to maintain the site as well.

You can buy the jets and a number of other parts.. lead time might be an issue right now though.
Interesting that the book says #120 which is correct for the 1991 3WP model but early Japanese spec use #118 and 1987 US spec use #122
I would think that the one @2valve has would be the correct item for your bike.

@Andych , Edwardo is after the secondary main jet

I took my XT250 Main jet into Show and Go on Brighton road and matched one up, cost me about $12 for a new one.
Yamaha dealer's can get them in but cost around $35 ea

Half a chance I have a brand new one in amongst my SRX stuff... If I do it will be a Keyster item.. I prefer the Originals.. I will let you know if I find it.. currently doing the front forks etc on the Postie Bike.

Thanks for the help guys. @2valve came through with the goods. Carb should be good now!

I intended on just getting the thing going but a heap of my parts have not turned up so there's not a whole lot to do. I was thinking I might repaint the frame and engine since I have the time now. And that it looks pretty bad as is.

I really like the look of the silverish/goldish stock finish but can't seem to find a suitable can off the shelf. Anyone have any good experience with the colour?

Easy option would be black everything haha.

I have used wheel silver on bike bits and it looked very close to original Honda, don't know about a yamaha.

The Yamaha SRX250 frame colour is a right PITA to find.
Really the only way is to get a good photo and take it to an Automotive paint supplier who mixes paint in spray cans.
They should be able to get a reasonable match..... maybe lol

You could always do what Gary did and change it to the Italian flag paint scheme ( it was a factory paint scheme) which has red frame etc and pearl white tank, fairing etc.

As what Andy has recommended to do would be the way to go , as in Auto paint supplies.I'm aware you wanted to go back to factory though.
The SRX did come in other colours from the Factory and Black was one of them. I have some better pictures of the Black colour scheme , but at'least this will give you some idea what they look like. The best thing with this colour scheme is that the decal's are very easy to get , actually i can arrange them for you.

It's a pity there isn't anything too close to that OG colour. I think the Italian colour scheme looks excellent but it'd be extra work with the two tone and I don't have a front fairing or belly pan which I think make the whole look work.

I'm not fussed on it being 100% factory. I do like the black scheme though, perhaps with black wheels + polished lips. I'd only need the rear decals however but will keep that in mind when finishing.

I did see wheel silver and had heard good things. Some types seem to be really shiny and glossy. I was looking to redo the scratched up forks and swingarm in a silver that isn't too glossy. I have seen a few "aluminium" colour rattle cans which seem to fit the bill.

I thought some a few of the silver colours looked too glossy but that actually looks pretty good. I was going to do fork bottoms and swingarm in an engine enamel aluminium. $17 a can, not too bad.

Some xt250 engine parts just came up on gumtree, is it worth getting an engine or two if they are dirt cheap? Just thinking it would be good to have spare head and barrel etc worth it?

You have to make sure it is the same XT250 engine... there were Single cam and Twin cam engines... the main difference between the XT250TC and the SRX250 engine is the SRX has different crank cases to accomodate the kick starter on one side and no electric start and smaller alternator on the other side... the barrel, head, cams, rocker cover, clutch, balance shaft are all identical as are the carbies (only some jetting changes). The inlet manifolds are different in that the RHS one doesnt have the vacuum connection.
You will generally find that XT engines have had a much harder life that SRX engines just because of the nature of the bike... so barrels will need boring.. heads are mostly suspect and prone to cracking between exhaust valves... just little things to be aware of.

Makes sense they would likely have a harder life. And cheers for ID-ing the parts that are interchangeable. I don't need anything yet, not that I am aware of anyway. Thought it'd be good to have a few spares considering the availability of parts.

Some lovely little touches I found while cleaning up the bike. Exhaust was cut off at the muffler too. Nice!

As for the bit that has been hit with a grinder, I guess it was part of a front fairing or headlight?

So many parts are yet to be posted or still on the way so I'm getting the frame and engine ready for some paint.

    Few questions:
Has anyone opted for high tensile bolts for dog leg through bolts as opposed to OEM parts? If so, what company did you use? One of my suspension bolts was pretty haggard but genuine parts are unavailable. I've sent off enquiries to an au bolt company.

Can unsealed bearings be swapped for sealed bearings or the other way around? Noticed my rear wheel had a mix of both.. Just thought it was weird.

    Hi Ed
I'm afraid the lugs that where grinded off the frame hold the fairing support frame , which also hold's the headlight in place.Have enclosed another model of the SRX 250 which has a different set up for the headlight etc.Maybe a option , what type headlight if any came with the bike ?.

What bolt's are you after , can you supply the part number. I do have some , i may be-able to help.

Sealed bearing v's un-sealed bearing's just have different part number's. The Good doctor pulled a sealed bearing apart and found hardly no grease fitted , so if you do purchase sealed bearing's maybe a good idea to check them out. If you have a bearing shop in your neighbourhood they should be able to help.

Via the part's fiche the back wheel has the sealed type of bearing's , what i could find anyway.
