Hi all! I'm back with another project. I picked up this VTR250 unregisted. Had 22###km on the clock but has been outside it's whole life and it was in need of some TLC. Don't have any complete side on pictures, but you get the idea. In typical fasion, within 1 hour of delivery I've stipped most of it (except the swingarm and front forks), as you do. Tonight I scrubbed most of the metal parts with steel wool in prep for primer etc etc Stay tuned!
Some updates My paint booth How it sits as of tonight Waiting on handlebars and tyres to arrive Tomorrow I'll rip the airbox apart and give the carbs a good clean, hopefully sort all of the electronics out too
I think that entire family of bikes has issues with space in and around the airbox and carbs. On the VT250F model, I have to basically pull the carbs apart to get them and the airbox off and then back on. Choke cables, throttle cables and the loom running through the airbox area are another anger point. Honda did a good job making the VT250F narrow, but packing everything in tightly makes it a very painful bike to work on. The Spada seems a little better. Never worked on a VTR250, so looking forward to hearing how you go.
Nope, wasn't too bad getting it out it was putting it back in. The only issue I have now is that I forgot where the vacuum system is supposed to sit. I've placed it back where I think it goes - all the vacuum lines and crankcase breather lines are the correct length etc but it seems to be in the way of the petcock/fuel line (can't put the lines in to the petcock without it hitting on some hoses when dropping the tank)
Some updates - I got everything buttoned up that I could, tied all the wiring into place, cleaned all tubing and lubed all cables (except the choke). Wired up the new odometer Still waiting on tyres, handlebars, mirrors and also indicators. I haven't touched the subframe/rear fairing/seat, the one thing I dislike about the vtr is the tail section. Still not quite sure what route I want to take though!
Keep the tail section pieces that you don't like because the next owner might want to restore it to original and you will have more chance of selling an original bike.
Got RWC booked in next month - found a baffle that fits in this dented muffler, I restricted the baffle some more too. Also need to change the brake fluid, it's looking a bit sad. At least it's a roller again!
Hey guys does anyone know where I can find the workshop and owners manual for a vtr250 it’s a 2003 model
