I accidentally did that. I rode my bike to church, so I was dressed up and riding my bike this morning. That counts, right? Oh, and this was Friday:
Drag bike engine has poor compression in one cylinder, so I'm trying to scrape together a second motor just in case. Decided to try and build a test bed for engines, so I don't have to go to all the hassle of putting one in a frame. Stage 1 is to be able to do a cold compression test and also check the oil pump is working. So far so good. I've wired a battery into a circuit with a starter switch (from local Supercheap), so I can run the engine on the starter motor.
Hmm, a brake dyno, you say? Sounds less complicated and more compact than the water pump idea I had...
This is similar to what I had in mind to build using an electric motor rotor and a Commodore or Falcon disc brake. The idea of the flex plate with starter motor would be a good addition too. http://dtec.net.au/inertia dyno design guide.htm Bit more here. http://wotid.com/dyno/content/view/19/38/
Both are mere multiplication of the 2 factors: pressure and flow rate for the pump, torque and rev for the brake - with a 2Pi constant factor.
A brake dyno is the only way to go. I have thought about building one on many occasions. The stumbling block for me is noise control. I would like to remain friendly with my neighbours.
Ok so I have gone to the point of no return - started on the GSX250 frame!!! Wish me luck ha ha More pics next week I hope
Gave an old MC22 muffler a bit of a clean up. Pleased with how the hand cut HRC logo turned out. End result has gotta be worth an extra 2 hp / second off a lap / 5kmh speed, etc, etc . Too much effort to polish the lot, so just gave the exposed aluminium a brushed finish and applied high temp exhaust paint to the rest.
I sold another bike. Whittling them down slowly. But I'm not sure I have a seller amongst them - I mean, do I really want to sell the CBR400? Got it running a lot better when I put the air filter on. The long weekend was good; not sure I want to go back to work.
I am surprised, with all these lockdowns on, especially Vic, I thought there'd be more project work getting done. I guess you're all "essential" people and, like many up here, have been busier than before, it seems.
Being a Victorian, I have been spending my time trying to work out smart ways to continue having income rolling in. A lot of time gets lost chasing potential new opportunities, following up on old clients and trying to get out to do field repairs, etc. I have not really gained any more time back. I am putting more time into conceiving new business ideas and reinvigorating my marketing efforts to try and survive once the lock down rules are relaxed. There appears to be a lot of diversion of budgets from traditional areas to pandemic focused ones. Dynamically reacting to that does have it challenges and is time consuming. So unfortunately, other projects have not progressed that well. Deliveries are also horribly slow down here in Victoria which is impacting everyhing.
james dropped the white mc22 off today with a worrying rattle at 8000rpm , I could tell it was only running on 3 , so a quick carb strip and clean sorted out a block jet , I did laugh when I spotted this , the vac port cover had fallen off , I found it under the starter motor. Nice easy fixes , rattle has now gone. Hooked up the vaccum gauges , there are now spot on and ready for @James Mclaren to wring her neck The carb insulators are rock hard so a new set has been ordered from @Xcitebikes and a replacement clutch lever as this one is flogged out.
So happy with this news! @kiffsta has been so accommodating and his knowledge is priceless , can’t wait to enjoy this thing, and again I wish to thank everyone on this forum, I’m slowly learning but the advice and positive enforcement has been second to none, waiting on a few more bits and bobs for the track bike but that will also be posted soon! Love these little things and stoked to be breathing life into them keeping them in great working order Thankyou again
Had to do some work in Dandenong yesterday, so took the opportunity to get out on the mc22. Loaded up my little backpack with all my gear and the much needed work permit and off I went. So satisfying to get out and ride the little bike again.
