Hi all hope we are doing well.

I've been busy these holidays getting the bike back together however I've found a part that I don't know or can't remember where it goes.. it's a little spacer/dowel type thing. It measures 7mm outer diameter, 4mm inner and about 7mm long.

I have no idea where it goes! Looked at the spare parts bike and the manual as well as online parts pics. It has me stumped!

I think it came from the side cases as I found it in the box of cover bits and pieces.

Is it coming to anyone's mind? Haha

    Also bike as it sits

Nope... too small a bolt size for that.. more likely to be either gauge cluster mount (inside rubber bushes) or fairing mount... again inside rubber bushes.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah it's a pretty small little dowel and only one of as well.

I was wracking my brain hoping it wasn't someone behind the clutch or something like that. Didn't wanna have to pull it all apart.

Now that you mention it @Andych it does look to be one of those little sleeves that goes in a rubber bushing.

Or that lever pivot.. we'll see how we go haha

So, lots of work done these holidays. Still a long way to go. So far I have reassembled the motor but still need to check valve clearances + timing before bolting down the cam cover for good.

I've also rebuilt the brakes, still a bit spongy need a proper bleed. New fork oil, forks still spongy too. New tyres are on and look great. I think the brake master I have is not og and I'm not sure if I trust it.

I put on some ebay cheapo handle bars as mine are all bent up. I went for the one inch rise to match the stock height however mine have a downward angle. After getting them on the bike I realise they look poo.

What are peeps doing for aftermarket handlebars? I'd really like just some straight/flat bars, all the other eBay ones I find (apart from one style I don't like) have a downward swept angle to them. Not sure if I like that look..

    Hi Ed
WOW , well done , the bike is coming along very nicely. The black frame and the silver swingarm does look really good.

Regarding the front fork's being to soft , have you fitted the adjustable fork cap's in yet ?. As mentioned earlier , made my fork's actually slightly to firm for my liking after everything was rebuilt. The fork cap's are adjusted right out so i cant make them any softer either. I'm hoping when the fork's bed in more they may be slightly softer , well the bike has only done 50 K's so everything is still super firm.

Re brake master cylinder , the O.E unit's should have Yamaha stamped into the reservoir cap. Yamaha also made new master cylinder's to suit , but they only have Japanese writing on the cap. This is what i have fitted , the price i paid for it was less than a rebuild kit for my O.E unit. Purchased a pile of N.O.S , so got it very cheap. I should have kept the O.E reservoir cap , but it just wasn't worth stuffing around painting it , plus the cost of matching the colour. I can take a picture of what i have if it help's ?. I wont mention what brake fluid i've used , as last time i did the " so called expert " said i cant use that fluid , politely told him i've been using it for over twenty year's.
I'm aware you know about bleeding brakes , but what i have done in the past with great success is to SLIGHTLY tie back the front break lever and leave it overnight. But i also do have S/S braided line fitted which help's with a firm feel. The bike stop's very well , even with my fat a--e on it.

I'm afraid i cant help with the clip on bar's. I just kept the O.E ones as i wanted to keep the bike in fairly stock trim whenever possible. There was a really nice set of clip on bar's on ebay a while back , fully adjustable angle wise. I'll see if can find them for you. Have seen pictures of normal full length bars fitted somewhere on the web , but drilling holes in the top triple tree would worry me a bit as it's no return after that. You could straighten your's though with some heat. I might know where a straight O.E r/h side one is. Wonder if you can wait until you have a rolling bike as such to see if they feel ok while in the riding position. They might be OK.

I wasn't too sure on the silver swingarm. A bit more time and a bit more money and I feel like I could have had a better finish but how long is a piece of string! Could have done many things differently in this build haha.

Haven't fitted the preload adjuster, hopefully they come good! Re brakes, yes I have tried the ziptied brake lever overnight on my old zxr and had great results. Will do the that here I think.

Will take a closer look at the master and see if it's good. Will definitely look into braided line. My spares bike came with a master as well I'll have to dig it out for a suss too.

As for clip ons, yep stock will look best I think. Thought about cutting and welding in new bars to the old mounts but that could be pricey. The eBay specials will stay on the bike until it's finished and see how it looks or if it grows on me!

    Cheers!

Cheers for the link. I think they'd look a lot better than what's currently there.

I just measured clearances and apparently I don't have any! Haha both exhausts and one intake measured at less than 0.03mm (I don't have anything smaller than that) and the other intake was at 0.07mm.

Fun times! Gotta check the chart and see what I can put in. It's my understanding that clearances will wear tighter? If that's the case I'd like to be on the wider end of the spectrum for clearances. Intake: 0.08 - 0.12 mm and exhaust: 0.10 - 0.14 mm.

Also included pic of bike now with wheels on and clip ons

I wouldnt be having the forks that far through the top tree...try to keep it as close to stock as possible in terms of the fork and rear shock setup... otherwise it is looking pretty good.

Yeah I do prefer the stock bars for that reason too. They are currently about 10 mm through more than stock.

Got done with clearances, turns out I need a 235 and a 230, if anyone has any spare I'm interested! Can swap some of mine or just buy them.

Will look into precision shims as I have bought from them before and was impressed. Would rather buy in Aus, many shims coming up from os but I'm in the middle of moving house and not sure on shipping times from other countries.

    Thanks guys! Really appreciate it.

Had a dig around and found the spare master which looks to be an original piece however it looks to be semi paint stripped and a mess. It's also missing some kind of sight glass seal or something. I couldn't find it on any parts diagrams. The hole was plugged up with a bit of rubber.

You probably need one of these
    [IMG]

Diameter is approximately 17 or 18 mm
If you think it will fit I will post it to you with any correct sized shims when I find them

Definitely needs something like that! Although I'm not sure how it goes together. I'll have a closer look today to see how it goes together. Thanks!

Sight glasses I've seen look to be pressed in whereas mine looks to be smaller diameter with a raised lip.

Cleared it up, yes the whole thing comes out and is approx 18mm.

Also no idea what the po was doing with this master. Looks like crusted paint stripper under the seal and crust all through the reservoir. Had a fight with a screw too haha
