Mulled over this turbo idea more than I’d like to admit

one of these with a China boy ying yang spiny thing, sending a piston to the moon is something I wouldn’t mind laying over

I've seen a drag bike which had a piston exit the block - sound fun in a story, I doubt it was fun in practice

BUT, don't let that dissuade you

@James Mclaren just an idea, check the water pump before you pull motors and heads etc. I’ve had water pumps make that same noise which turned out to just be a bearing. Easy to repair if it is.

The phone audio doesn’t pick it up well, but a distinct rattle at 8000

I know I am getting older and progressively going deaf, but I can not hear anything particularly abnormal.
The cams and gears do make a very distinctive noise on the CBR250s.
If you have a little too much clearance at the valves you will get some tapping at various revs. But unless it is really noticeable, I would not be too concerned. Better a little loose than tight.
At higher mileage you are likely to get a bit more noise (which is only natural).
I have 3 bikes with these little cbr engines. They all have varying mileages and all make slight different characteristic noises but all are running great.

Have a good listen to an old Suzuki oil cooled GSXR motor. Now they can be noisy. Also my big blade (CBR900RR) has obvious cam chain noises. It is a high mileage bike though and chains and tensioners are a known issue.

Ride it and enjoy it. They are great little machines.

    Peter.

So is it a rattle or scream or squeal? Seems like you're describing different types of sounds, all at same 8000rpms.
I think there's a dip in AFR at that RPM, so load on engine parts may change?
Does it do it if you're in gear accelerating down road?

Doesn’t matter if in gear or not, ouch in or out or on road!

I appreciate the feedback, yes it has cam gear noise like they all do, but it’s hard to describe the sound I’m talking about and the phone audio doesn’t pick up the sound! Quite frustrating , but then again it doesn’t effect how the bike runs at all

maybe I’m just being anal, but my other mc bikes don’t have this “noise”

I might just put it down to little gremlins that live in my engine

anyways, it off getting some paint work done because someone made a comment when it was forsale about it having scratches..... so yes I kinda get funny about imperfections

To help add to this, the noise was a lot louder until we found the cap on the brass fitting used to balance the carbs was missing on number 3 , I found the cap near the starter motor and reinstalled it , instantly the sound at 8000rpm halved , could it be a burnt valve from too much air getting in ?

I doubt that very much. The cap would be long gone before any valve damage set in.

We don’t know how long the cap was off , I only saw the bike after jimmy bought it

it does run really well, doesn’t feel down on power , the noise was very evident at 8k with the cap off , after I replaced the cap , it dropped but was still there
