Didnt do much today.... laced up the front wheel and started to true it up but I need to get myself a spoke nipple spanner. Still waiting on new wheel bearings too. I also made my cardboard template for the front guard mount / fork brace for the SRX. I have a sheet of 4mm alloy sheet I will cut it out of... should be plenty strong enough.
Lacing is relatively easy.... once you get the correct positioning etc... it only took me 3.5hrs... the last .5 was lacing it correctly... the previous 3 was doing it wrong multiple times.. The Trueing is a bit of an art I think... I had it pretty much within 2mm side to side yesterday but it was out on the circumference... so trying to correct that put it back out side to side so I think I just need to sneak up on it slowly. Apparently the outside spokes do side to side and inside do out of round... Might check you-tube again... and again.. and........
The best way to lace & true a spoked wheel is to take your wheel jig into the loungeroom, put a movie on, and lace away, a texta held against the stand when you are getting close to "right" helps pinpoint the wobble / high spots, once true, tap the spokes, some will "ting" some will "tong", depending on their tension, ting, tong, ting, tong is a good sound,, Oh,, I got carried away,,today's chore was to recess some 4mm plate for the oil feed O rings to sit,,,
I managed to get it trued up yesterday... to within 1.5 to 2mm. Honda specifies 3mm so that will do for me. I watched a different you-tube how to which made it much easier... mind you a spoke spanner would have been a handy tool as well. Oh well, one is on order now so the rear wheel will see some loving soonish. I then spent another 2 hrs searching for my 4mm Alloy plate... I cleaned up and re-arranged the garage last week...I found stuff I knew I had but hadnt seen for ages but now cant find my 4mm plate...lol It cant hide forever... it is A4 so should be easy to find... RIGHT!!!!!!
I did a bad thing.... I bought a bike, and just a bike, but a Triumph, and a damaged one at that! I must be old: it's a Sprint ST. I worked on a bunch of Triumph bikes end of last year and thought "I wouldn't own a Triumph." Fixed one last week that needed a reg/rec that is $600 new OEM - wouldn't buy a Triumph.... Nek minit: I bought a Triumph. Sigh. Maybe I should just part it out. My boss offered me $50 less than I paid, I thought it would be may cheapest option...
Who would spend $600 on an oem reg/rec anyway? .... apart from the fact there was big recalls on alot of those This is what alot of Daytona guys use https://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/l/rectifier-regulators
A trip to the Triumph dealer on a Triumph to order some Triumph parts and look at the latest ummm ... Triumphs .... and then take the long way home to try out the new gear shaft support ... a world of difference I also sat on a second hand Panigale in the showroom .... surprisingly very streamlined and 'narrow' like the Daytona .... hmmmm
Errrr NO , this has to be seen in daylight to be believed it really is lovely Now to get rid of that spawn of Satan zx10
