    Been unleashing some HP on the bike today to help out the new member with his SRX :lolsign:.
    Via the feel , the secondary carby feel's like it kick's in around 5200 RPM , as the rev's climb pretty fast after that. Not to bad for a old school 4 stroke engine.

    As mentioned i've only rev'd the bike to 6000 RPM through the gear's , so have no idea what the performance will be up to red line , and how i ride these day's , i'll never rev the bike to it's limit's anyway.
    I can easily get up to 60MPH with ease ( even with the beached whale on the bike , me ) , and i don't seem to be using that much throttle to get there either.

    As for the fairing , i personally would re-fit one , as at highway speed , they do work pretty well. The wind from the fairing screen hit's me on the lower part of my helmet , so not much on the chest as such , so less drag as we don't have huge HP on tap to blast through the air , but have to agree the total price will add up though to re-fit a fairing.

    For other owner's reading this that are also looking into tyre's the stock sizes are: Front 90/90-16 48S
    Rear 100/90-18 56S
    There will be no issue's going 10mm over , the picture's below are the tyres i have fitted at the moment.

    The tyre's listed below are available to suit our bike's here in Australia , but hate to say these are not available in the USA (made a call) , unless they are privately sent to you.

    The standard fairing is very effective once you're up to speed. I do like that round light fairing as it has a retro 'feel' about it that wouldn't look out of place on the SRX. There's not a lot of options for aftermarket square/rectangular headlight fairings.

    I got busy on my TW project(s) last night so I will be able to play with the SRX again soon hopefully. Got my 88 "black widow" model TW200 stock resto project mostly assembled which clears some room. I know its not 250cc, but the yellow cafe/scrambler project is going to get a 226cc 6speed upgrade from my beater serow xt225 eventually so maybe we can just ignore that missing 27cc ? : I just hope you guys don't demote the pic into the "fuggers" thread....its just a mock-up, going to cut & weld a scrap pool ladder railing for an exhaust, nice & thin, $5 scrapyard find & its shiny stainless too :)
    Its warm but rainy today & dropping back near freezing again tonight so no runs up to 5600rpm to trst the secondary for me in the forecast soon. That is awesome info 2valve ! Glad I found you an excuse to get out & ride ;)
    I placed an order for the stock fairing & windscreen this morning. Sales rep said card is not charged until they have the part in their hands but could give no definite answer as to actual availability. Will be waiting anxiously on an email to say its coming or out of stock forever...
    Thats awesome to know a 100mm criss section tire will fit ! I eyeballed the fender clearance on my 90/90/16 & looked to me like theres only maybe 10mm room each side. But if you have not melted tire into fender yet i am going to order a 100mm tire ! I did find a few good options in 100mm width that I can buy 2-3 of for the cost of one 90/90/16.
    I had to laugh reading an amazon review of one that said "good tire, cannot say how it does at high speed as the tire is on a mobility scooter limited to 8mph" tire was a great price ($58) but no way i can buy that tire now, as if I were ever to go grocery shopping & i park up front & a mobility scooter rolls by on same tires as my SRX, i might die of embarassment. Mobility scooter tires on an (urban) "sportbike"? No way LOL.
    So yeah, will let yamaha parts decide my fairing route for now, will be ordering 100mm wide(non mobility scooter) tires soon, & once the weather dries & warns will be seeing if my SRX does anything exciting in the mid 5k rpm range

    Have a good mate that has a TW 200 in his shed , i was helping him find some M.I.A part's for it. I should ask how he is going with it , if he got it going in the end.

    The engine in your TW look's like our 1981 XT 250 G engine , but it's only a kick start engine though.
    Wonder if a top end would bolt on , instant HP gain.

    No problem at all for the tech info , happy to help.
    But i'm far from being a expert , other's here are more knowledgeable than i will ever be.

    I've been running Pirelli's for a while and have had no issue's , re rubbing as there is ample clearance.
    I can measure the air gap if that help's you in anyway.
    The new rear tyre look's huge in the picture , but it's only 10mm wider than factory.

    I'm pretty sure the fairing will be N.L.A , but no harm in asking just in case.
    Second hand fairing's are available over this way , but the freight cost's would be up there.

    There is a aftermarket fairing available over your way , so this is another option for you to look at.

    I dont mind kickstart only, i never dug into the TW200 engines predecessors, but from what i have read that engine family is limited in upgrading to a 225cc as supposedly the xt250 & xt350 are totally different size wise & would require frame modifications. But have also read the 200cc engine design is much older than 1987 when they first came out with the TW so maybe there is an as yet undiscovered swap like the bike you mention. Much of my "knowledge" on that stuff is internet hearsay at this point as i have yet to have many yamahas apart at once to compare. I would guess the head bolt hole-spread would be my limiting factor. I have already dreamed it would be awesome to upgrade the SRX to a 350cc like Andych, then shuffle the engine(s) downhill...use the dohc SRX250 in my serow xt225, then put the 225cc in my TW200. So 3 engine upgrades for the cost of one XT350 parts bike :) the only true "trickle down economics" i know of LOL
    What a great find on that aftermarket fairing !! Unsure if its still sold but list price is only $110 ! Sure wish they listed that full body fairing price, its pretty cool too. No windshield with it so that may leave a loose end if yamaha oem falls thru on that part. Have looked into bending "perspex"? (We call it lexan or plexiglass here) in an oven before as i someday need to fabricate a front window rockguard for my old airstream camper project. The sheer size of that one (100cmx75cm or so) held me back but a small part like an SRX screen maybe doable without making a custom oven, could maybe even do by hand with a heat gun if need be :)
    My 90mm tire to fender gap sure seems tiny already but if you got stock forks 16" rim & fender & it works, I trust its possible.
    And if theres any way I can assist tracking down those M.I.A. TW bits for your buddies project please let me know, as i have 4 in various stages of modifications with some oem leftovers on hand plus in a few owners groups where parts are often posted.

    Anything is possible for different power plant's.
    Have some info / picture's on fitting a XT 600 power plant into the SRX 250 frame.
    Now , that would be pretty cool , that's a tad more HP to use , but , for me , i prefer to keep the bike in factory trim as much as possible , but i've fitted some aftermarket when my bike was rebuilt.

    Re tyre air gap from the mudguard. Just have taken some picture's for you , my bike has stock wheel's , nothing has been modified.

    Thought you'd like the fairing link , pretty sure they still make them as they not long sent me a email over a sale.

    No need to look into making a fairing screen , they are N.LA from the factory , but they are available aftermarket.
    There not exactly cheap , but at'least there new and simply just bolt them up.
    Head's up though , use the O.E plastic screen bolt's , there cheap enough , less chance of cracking the screen.
    I have a bunch of them stored away for the future.

    Thanks very much for the offer to help my TW friend , he's a great guy , he's alway's willing to help me out when needed.

    Yeah the minimal tire to fender gap has me anxious, those nipples sure look close to rubbing the fender, & I sure wouldnt wanna chafe my nipples ;) considering i can at least try to fit a 100/80/16 or 100/90/16 for less than 1/2 the cost of a stock 90/90/16 I am just going to pull the trigger & at least try it out. Worse case I'm out only $60 or so (vs $200+ to get a stock size one here), or may need to shim the fender up a bit higher....I wonder how Andych fits his 17" rim in the fender !?
    That aftermarket windscreen isn't priced TOO CRAZY, granted i'm sure its only an $8 hunk of plastic materials LOL, but they want only $20 more than the oem one plus offer many colors too, so pretty fair if comparing to stock, & even more so if its the only choice available I think.
    Fairing still looks to be a several hundred dollar project no matter how you slice it, but it needs SOMETHING other than a cube & wires hanging out front.
    $300 oem setup plus some DIY stickers $250-ish aftermarket setup (plus paint & graphics)
    a $80 ebay used one (plus plastic welding, graphics & paint & an aftermarket screen for another $120)
    Naked round LED setup for about $75 . All but the naked round setup will run nearly 1/3-1/2 what i got the whole bike for. I just had to fall for the rare one yr only model (story of my life, the price you pay to be different i suppose !)
    You wanna feel like you overpaid for a bit of plastic ? look into those offroad gas cans that lock in place... brand name ones run $100 to hold a whopping gallon or so, i got some no-name ones off aliexpress for much less ($40 each) as i couldnt stomach paying $100+ for what is effectively about 10-20 milk bottles worth of plastic (& should cost accordingly, its just a thick bottle, no matter if it holds cow juice or rotten dinosaurs !)
    & I never mentioned this here yet, but there is a guy the next state over wiTHRa trio of 87 SRX250s in various states of neglect for sale...each one he wants over double what i paid for mine & will only sell them as a group so I'm not even tempted to go look. He does have a brand new NOS OEM fairing, seat, belly pan & some other bits tho.

    That aftermarket fairing link you posted also sells the kit to recreate Goose's madmax bike ! Those madmax bikes always appealed to me as a kid. Like crotch rockets before they were even ever a thing. I gotta ask, did you Aussies basically invent the crotch-rocket look ? or were they originally fairings sourced from asia & merely popularized in the mainstream/west by the movie ?
    Having only got my first bike last April I am a newbie at best, but older "bikers" tell me the KZ1000 is pretty collectible & expensive, but someday when i am ready for bigger faster bikes I would love to do a madmax bike, something about those bullet nose fairings and 4 exhaust pipes just makes me smile :) figure the SRX looks already have me 1/2 way there with its exhaust design & a fairing ;)

    To be honest , i'm not sure who designed the fairing from the Madmax movie's , but i do remember that style of fairing fitted to the early model Pommy bike's i think , well there old black and white picture's , so a little old.
    But it's like everything , people have the our spin and re-design bike's and there panel's , so who really know's.

    The old Z9 and Z1000 are worth a pretty penny these day's , i've never ridden one , but the old story's my favourite uncle told me when i was pretty young , that they didn't handle that well.
    The total weight is eye watering though , just looked up the spec's , i thought they where heavy , but not what's listed on the web : The bike weighed just 661.39 pounds (300.0 Kg).

    There is a FB page that is mostly USA guys... Yamaha SRX 250 Restoration and Mods... some stuff comes up on there every now and then. The Group Owner Richard Lin is a good guy... never know what you will find if you look hard enough.

    Note that tyre's aspect ratio is percentage of width, not an absolute measurement. So factory front tyre 90/90-16 has sidewall height of:

    90x90% = 90x0.9 = 81mm compared to 100/80-16
    100x80% = 100x0.8= 80mm, pretty much same

    Won't change speedo read-out it you go with these sizes:

    100/80-16 American Moto Tyre - pretty much exact same diameter as 90/90. Would only lower 1mm due to only radius of tyre below axle, not entire diameter. Which is less than difference betwen new vs old tyre of either size anyway. Also diameter will vary by more than 1mm between cold vs. hot tyre of either size as well.
    100/90-18 American Moto Tyre - why not use same size as stock?

    DannoXYZ i started a real mess of a tire size thread (warning may cause crossed eyes LOL) hoping to help others seeking a replacement for a 90/90/16 to peg this down. I have understood the metric standard for about 25yrs now for cars so was able to peg down 2 ideal replacement sizes (100/80/16 &100/90/16) using a tire size calculator i posted over in tyres/brakes also. But I am being weirdly anal about trying to match the rear size & profile to either of those sizes. Personally i would prefer the 80 series "swap" as it would be lighter, stiffer, & more "precise" handling feel vs the taller 90 series. The 80 series is also closer to stock size. The part that has me still looking is by increasing only the front tire width there is then an imbalance in grip vs stock. Put wider or narrower tires on one end of a car & you will feel little change, right up to the limits of traction at which point one end will suddenly try passing the other...often do not find that point until a wet or snowy day, or a corner a touch too fast.
    Since going wider up front to a 100mm is the only option, i would think the best balance would then be to widen the rear proportionally. Tire grip is mostly pressure (weight/surface area) wider will create less pressure. More grippy rubber grab better in dry (but also slide out much easier in wet/gravel/snow etc) i do not intend to ride my SRX in much other than warm sunny weather, and fully understand there WILL be changes in traction by changing tire width (& profile to some extent). My intent is since i basically have to widen the front, i should also widen the rear (in proportion) so percentage of front to rear grip stays similar to stock for predictable handling. (I'm a newbie with only a few months & miles XP on bikes, i already have enough excuses to crash LOL) Thanks for the tire leads & info, opinion & even racing input, you guys are really helpful :)

    Andych that carb diagram is information gold ! Wish i had that when i cleaned my carb. My secondary slide was gummed & seized, took alot of soaking, a bit 9f prying & patience to move. I had it sliding freely. Tho my secondary jet was all mangled so i cleaned it in place. I am a bit concerned i may have damaged the irreplaceable diaphram blowing compressed air around that jet without removing the diaphram & slide. Time wilp tell if thats why it feels slow to me, sure hope not ! & i never even thought to search for a facebook group. Few reasons why. First off this forum is what comes up on a google search for srx250 related info. Facebook groups overtook real forums like this in the last decade or so & i have only recently joined the "cult" after avoiding it for years. But only because its only place most used stuff like my SRX is listed by anyone. No gumtree here & craigslist is nearly a ghost town. Information is not catalogued on FB like it is in a forum, often just lost in the "homepage feed" . People also seem WAY nicer here, a lot of toxic stuff in social media even like minded owners groups. I will absolutely check out that SRX group you mention, always good to have resources. plus probably save you guys some headache with usa only problems like tyres ;)

    Richard Lin is a good guy... that group is pretty good but like all FB Groups... you can and do get people with agenda's.
    If you need it there is a copy of the Service Manual in the resources section... you do need to be a Premium member to access it (if @GreyImport has been able tosort out the payment issue with PP) it is only a small sum and helps with the running of the Forum.
    You can get Keyster carby kits but original brass is always better if you can clean and re-use it.
    There was something else I was going to mention but I cant quite remember what it was (happens a lot these days lol)
    When I remember I will let you know.

    That sure is a relief, yesterday I did join that FB owners group you guys mentioned & was fortunate to stumble upon 1/2 of this info a ways down the feed & took a screenshot for when or if I need to find that diaphram. Was going to share it here but you jusr beat me too it LOL
    It also looks like there might be someone attempting to get a lower belly pan to the same place that reproduces the upper fairing in California in the hopes they will make a mold. With another member saying he is in the process of making his own mold also. So with any luck, maybe yet another "unobtanium" SRX part can be checked off the list soon :)
    I have read the piston is no longer available, are there any other often needed SRX bits that are exceedingly difficult or impossible to find you guys can think of ?

    Most of the leg work has been done chasing down new part's or supplier's to suit the SRX 250.

    There where a few of us working on SRX's at one stage , this forum is renowned for helping each other no matter what brand of 250cc bike you own.

    I'f your after a certain part , just ask as this would save you a lot of time and frustration , getting replies : " sorry N.L.A " , and other part's agent's simply don't update there system what they actually have on hand , not what the PC say's.

    Some part's are N.L.A i'm afraid , that's to be expected for the age of the bike , but the SRX was very popular back in the day's , so there where a lot part's lying around on agent's shelves or in old owner's garage's.

    Re piston , i think you mean new cylinder piston(s) being N.L.A ?.
    New piston's are out there , i'm aware of one owner having multiple new sized piston's stored away , i think this guy must know a lot of local Yamaha agent's / supplier's.

    New oversized pistons are rare as the proverbial unicorn droppings, however….. there have been new pistons made so it isn’t necessarily a list cause.
    You can also search for TT or XT250 TC must be the twin cam engine. You may have some luck there, you just never know.
    I remembered what I was going to advise you.
    You mentioned different Camshafts.
    Unless you get the correct items you will not gain anything.
    The correct casting number for the high lift cams is in my thread. I am on the road at the moment so can’t delve into that thread but I will be home tomorrow night (floods permitting) and will advise.
