2014 Yamaha R25 and R3

Don't like the sit up positions on these new 250/300/500 LAMS bikes now but for someone who learning it is good. I learnt on a trail bike so you could see over the top of most cars not through windshields which I think is the best way to start to my 2 cents

 

I think the reason the new bikes are selling so well is that the seating position is more up-right. Comfort is more important to some rather than looks.

 

Am I the only one who thinks the seating position looks awkwardly cramped?

It's a nice looking bike but what use is it if you're cramped and not comfortable?

 

No, you are not the only one who thinks that way. The riding position is close to that of a racer and yes, it is very cramped indeed. Let's not forget that GP riders race for approximately 1 hour and it's all over, they are in peak physical condition and we can conclude that an hour isn't going to kill you.

You go for a ride with your mates, couple of hours of riding before the mandatory pit stop, fuel and food. Each time I've been out riding and we have a stop, all riders are pleased to step off the bike, stretch the legs and stand upright.
This is absolutely normal as your body has been in a semi cramped position for that period.

The bike design is the culprit, they make it so that your body fits into motorcycle and aerodynamics are optimised, again that is fine to achieve maximum performance from your machine, alas your body tells you otherwise.

The old adage stands true: Horses for courses! Find the bike that suits you best.

 

Yes definitely agree 2 mates got cbr500r (fizzer keeps up then has more top end) nice riding position like a trail bike so I think it is good for learners!!! I just prefer late 80 early 90 styles

 

Not sure I'd call it upright at all, Im 183cm, room to move wherever I want and load the front wheel, the engine is so addictive the way it effortlessly surges ahead at any rev above 5000, from 9000-12,250 it hammers. Cut some very fast laps on just the 4th 15 min session and was still setting it up.

How did you find the stock rear sets?
Have you swapped to GP shift? Was it easy to do?

I take it there aren't currently many(any) people making fibreglass for them yet.

 

Made plates from 10mm x 75mm alum 100mm back/75mm up to mount the stock rearsets to my liking.
Flipped the gearbox arm 180 degrees on the spline, used 105mm of .250 ChroMo tube which I tapped 6mm and fitted to the Male end of the rod for reverse shift.

Swapped the handlebars left to right and turned upside down , redrilled the index holes for the switchblock and throttle, Used ChroMo tube for 10mm spacers to clear the stock bodywork for now.
This put the bars way low.





Dropped the forks another 5.4mm thru the triples to load the front to suit my style,
Set the sag fairly tight as It will loosen up in time.
DID non O ring racing chain 2 links longer for longer wheelbase and help weight distribution and still sharp steering, covers all bases, whether I fluked it or not its a setup I always wanted to do to a Ninja as I used to unsettle the past couple bikes on change of direction.
This one stays rock solid and after the first day running 72 secs I'm confident to push down to the 68's required.

We'll be Parity testing soon so better not make it handle too good!

They have about 10 kits and options to choose from and tank covers, guards and screens.

The bike Ive always wanted them to build and I got the first one privately rego'd in Oz.
She's only got 650km on it, 400 was in the city running in. I hate road riding and was nervous,
was so good to give it a belting at the track, 186kph came up fast and rising before the very hard braking zone in T7. ABS didn't pulse which is a bonus and I havnt put HH pads in yet.

Money is now tight as building an MC22 racebike at the same time.

 

I may be bias, but Yamaha's clean sweep of the small sportsbike market now comes in Nekkid too
