How dangerous are the white lines on the road?

    I've always ridden over the white direction lines on the road without a second thought but today I rode around a roundabout and over a new arrow with my wheels running along the line. I am sure I felt the front wheel slide out slightly. Gave me a bit of a start. How bad are the lines for having the bike slip out under you? I'm not game to actually try it again so maybe someone can tell me?​

    I have always been told in the wet avoid rainbows in the road (oil) and to ride on the lines, you can ride on them in the dry but if a substance has come into contact with them they are very slippery (say antifreeze from a broken down car)

    I was entering the highway in the wet at WOT ( silly) and merged over a line and my little 250cc powerslid at about 90km/h was pretty scary.

    Depends how drunk ya are lol.

    On a serious note i tend to avoid them along with manhole covers and black tar strips especially here we have so much rain as they are more dangerous when wet. so avoid them like the plague mate. :thumb_ups:

    I rode to work in the wet today (must get myself some waterproof overpants) and the white direction arrows are noticeably slippery when wet. It had been raining all night and was still drizzling, then the rain got worse as I was halfway to work. They are slippery. I would be concerned about turning a corner on top of one, depending on the lean angle and speed.

    White lines and rain = bad bed fellows! I tend to avoid them at any cost, a few close calls have taught me to treat them with respect = avoidance.

    I avoid them as much as possible too.

    Also another thing to watch out for is when coming to a stop and putting the feet down. You don't really think about it and it could catch you out. Learnt that one in the driveway when walking the bike backwards and stood on some wet leaves.

    yeah white lines are bad, generally ridden with reflectors too....

    MY biggest fear is the crack repairs they do, where they walk along with a hotmix spray and try reseal road cracks..... when this **** gets hot in the sun again and your are banking into a corner.... things get slippery and scary

    If I didn't know better, could have sworn you lived on the Sunshine Coast. :)
    The councils and main roads do this and it is very scary indeed. The hot mix
    coupled with some stone simply melt in the hot weather, NOT GOOD:mad:
