17TH JANUARY AT OLD BAR CIRCUIT NEAR TAREE. THIS IS ON A SATURDAY AND SEE BAYLISS AND FRIENDS? RACE LIKE THE PRIZE MONEY WAS 50 MILLION DOLLARS.EXCITING, NO QUARTER GIVEN RACING ON THE DIRT TRACK.bayliss philosophy is win or die trying. competitive....YEP.exciting,long day but enjoyable. all i can say is bayliss retired from world superbike tooooooo early.some of these riders give me goosebumps missing the concrete wall by millimetrs.HOPE TO SEE YOU THEIR.
ok the event is now over. i was disappointed at the field marshals who at the start of the day were waving rolled up yellow flags and had no red flags.riders down and not moving had idiot marshals looking at the oncoming action and not the mayhem of crashes behind them. the marshals who i presume were local volunteers needed trainig and if not suitable out the door. i consider riders lives were placed in jeopardy and spoke to a team member picking up a smashed bike to notify whoever was in charge to issue the marshals with red flags. some of the nongs had no idea when to use.previous years no problem, this year chaos. not much better could be said for the clerk of the course.racing was good but riders safety was jeopadised to the maximum.
Like gladiators at the Coliseum & the crowd was hungry for it. One of the quad bike riders died in crash & was revived after a good while apparently. It was an eye opener for us coming from Karting where it's strictly policed by the officials & no nonsence policy is heavily enforced. Bikes on the track doing laps, wheelies & sliding through the corners entertaining the crowd while they heavy rollered & wheel rolled the track, they were in control & no one did anything stupid, just a bit of a shock for us. They certainly had a lot of big names, must have cost a lot of money to get them there. We estimated 5000 people by the number of quick shades, at least, probably more & the club catered for it very well. We didn't see you there Risky, where were you ?
on the corner whre all the crashes were. do not know of a death and revival but all i can say is p##ss poor marshalling and previously better organised.crowd i did not think was as large as previous years and the sausage or steak sangers were dearer. bayliss did not appear to be up to previous years riding ability or stupidity what ever you call it. for the final he was on the roller guiding the smoothing for the race lines.that bottom corner is where all the crashes happen and 3 quads tangled and 2 were in a bad way.crowd was expected to be 8,000.did you get out easy? the last race was a cracker.
We left at about 9:30, couldn't wait any longer, long hot day & we had a 2hr+ drive home. I don't like to be too critical about running meetings like that as I've just resigned after 8 yrs in a club doing all that & big meetings one after the other, I know full well what's involved, looks pretty simple but it's a big deal & takes a lot of planning,the week leading up setting all the stuff in place, toilets, temp fencing, canteen, food, fridges & freezers, officials, volunteers, security, car parking & pit allocation, track works, approvals & insurances & then there's the day or two or three or four of practice & racing, race entries, scrutineering, transport & accomodation & food for the officials & volunteers, looked like the perimeter fences were new & they take a pounding with all the animals climbing, bouncing, shaking, sitting, spewing over them, falling on them & the straight out vandals that do their best to wreck them, then there's the next couple of days to clean up, empty all the bins, dispose of all the broken & abandoned quick shades & chairs, clean up in the pits after all the entrants have left their scraps, rags , tyres & rubbish. Sorry boy's & girls, stilled a bit scarred, I'll stop there cause there's so much more.
