Hi all, i am having a bit of trouble replacing fork seals. Has anyone had difficulty removing the damper rod bolt? Mine is spinning but doesn't seem to be coming out.
i done the pikers way and sent mine to the mechanic. i do however have a pair here that you could use as spare parts if needed. i believe they were bent but the insides should be ok.
Your not doing anything wrong, the bolt will spin, you need to use a rattle gun to break the hold, either cordless electric or pnuematic, whatever you can get your hands on. You'll probably need to modify an allen key to fit. You only need to do it up again by hand though unless it won't grab & tighten.
Try a piece of broom handle down the inside of the leg (where the spring goes) to hold the damper rod while you undo the bolt. You have to push pretty hard to hold it.
Hit the nail on the head on this one... This is the method I have always used... @Jessica just remember to use a oiled thickish plastic bag when sliding the seals onto the fork leg.. last thing you want is to slice or nick the seals trying to get them on..
Sorry for the late reply everyone. Got it sorted. Made a tool to do the job. Bolt welded to a metal pole. head is 24mm in diameter and worked a treat.
