So I bought a new bike.... a ZXR750/ZX7R

    As far i can tell everything else is connected somewhere.
    On my oil cooler it has a hose that goes over to the water pump from the oil cooler. instead of this short hose

    That's exactly the same as old mates, factory must have changed something for the better.
    On my 94 model it's connected to the oil cooler, must have been changed on later models same as in the pic above.

    Thanks for that mate. I just tested out by running it with the part unblocked and its the return from the oil cooler, so the factory changed where it feeds into from the bottom of the radiator to before the water pump for some reason.

    I am guessing so the coolant goes all the way thru the whole radiator before being sent thru the engine and oil cooler again instead of just a little bit.

    I was just a touch apprehensive because the fan has been coming on a fair bit lately, but it has been bloody hot and i have been stop start riding :p

    That's normal for this time of year, good to see the fan is working, they run a fir bit hotter with the fairings on. All sounds normal.

    After a great weekend riding and notching up another 700km on the zx7r I have deduced it needs a service and to be tuned properly for the new exhaust at tax time. My stopgap shimming on the jet needles is running it too rich down low due to the shape of the needles, also wouldn't mind doing the valve clearances, head stem bearings and wheel bearings and fork seals and oil. After all it is only 6000km away from celebrating a new life at 00000Km. This one is a keeper ;)

    It's kind of a pity the motor is still so strong as i have an idea on a project for it when it's time for a rebuild.

    A zx7.9r. A certain model zx9r engine all but bolts in to the frame and wiring. I know its allready bloody fast but I dont like the idea of the newer 600's beating her haha

    All this means I need to get off my arse and get the zxr250's sorted and together and advertised so i have a shed to do the work in.

    The 900 conversion may be on the cards in the future at the moment it has enough power and sounds great.

    Yeah i think its overdue on some of that maintenance, as stable as it is its starting to "feel abit loose" nsw roads didn't help that haha. I dont reckon its had the valve clearances done or a carb sync done in quite awhile. Gonna be a pretty expensive service lol.

    I can say that it is a very powerful bike and seemed to perform very well over the week end. I followed TH3-Huntsman for awhile,all you see is this massive 190 tire, a serious amount of sound and when he wanted.......2 gears down and he disappeared into the sunset. It's a weapon..........a very quick one at that.:thumb_ups:

    Hmm so of recent times the 7r has been giving me some trouble. It is only idling on 3 cylinders and has all 4 back by the main jets. I found a split in a spark plug cap so have ordered some ngk ones. That should solve that problem.

    I removed the shim washers from the carbs I had put in as well. I found that on a previous attemp I pinched some diaphragms :( one now has a pinhole. So I have 3 options. Brand new they are $156ea not including postage! I could track down a second hand set of carbs from a wrecker. Or try and repair the diaphragm. Thoughts?

    Bad luck with the tear in the diaphragms, no idea about repairing them??? if the tear is near or on the folds you might struggle a little. Do you know who else uses those carbs-Suzuki- Yamaha- Honda as it might make it a little easier to source.
    I have a diaphragm for a larger motor than my Bandit alas don't know what it's off. Perhaps put up a photo of the culprit and we can have a look....also the dimensions would help.

    I couldn't find them for any other model then a zx7r. Cross referenced the part numbers as well.

    When I'm inside them I will grab a photo and dimensions

    I got a set of carbs from Metropolitan Spares in Syd for $150 + postage I think it ended up $165, all in good working order.
    Mines a 94 model, they originally sent me a set off a 96 model according to the cast in stamps & had to send them back. Remember we are one year behind downunder.

    WELL FFS! my 7r is giving me some grief. new coils are in and its back on all 4 but the bloody coolant leak wasnt just an oring the housing is warped! It is now a stream any ideas on repairing this? guess what its worth thru Kawasaki $180 FML

    extra thick gasket maybe, or bend over for mr kawasaki.

    could always try ebay or wreckers.

    Yeah i might try the wrecker i got the coils from. $110 express posted for the pair with leads and caps was pretty reasonable. so might get this housing reasonably priced too.

    Sadly I won't be the one to celebrate the zx7r's rebirth when the odometer rolls over to 00 000kms. It has moved on to a new owner.
